Thwarted to Face Five Shifty Rivals in Voter Morgan Racer Seeking Eighth Victory in Last Nine Starts BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L. I., N. Y., May 22. The Voter Purse, an allowance event at a mile and a sixteenth for a ,000 prize, heads tomorrows Belmont Park program. This test for Class B runners is headed by T. P. Morgans remarkably consistent Thwarted at 121 pounds, most of which will be Basil James. Thwarted will concede from one to 10 pounds to five rivals, composed of Harry LaMontagnes Larky Day, 120; Mrs. Walter M. Jeffords Mahout, 119; Jayess Stables Cencerro, 117; Lazy F Ranchs Calvados, 116, and George D. Wideners Half After, 111. Thwarted has won seven of his last eight starts, and was second the one time he was beaten. In his last appearance, the son of Discovery beat Mahout by two lengths at a mile, with Half After finishing another length and a half away. There is a five-pound weight shift in favor of Mahout, who finished fast, and a similar concession to Half After. LiarKy uay nnisnea eigntn in tne same race and had no apparent excuse. In his previous start, Larky Day had succumbed by a nose to Windfields and had Talon behind him at the wire. The latter was good enough to place second to Armed in the Widener at Hialeah last winter. Cencerro has won three of his last five starts and was second on the two occasions he was beaten. However, this steady going runner has not been meeting quite this caliber of opposition, but revels in sloppy footing. A day or so ago, Alfred G. Vanderbilt remarked that he wished he had a handicap horse good enough to complete in the proposed international races at Rio de Janerio. It was suggested to him that he had sold one that would fit very well in such a race, and the young head of Pimlico replied, "You mean Thwarted? He certainly would." If all six of the candidates in the Voter run their best races, this promises to be an exceedingly keen contest. Though neglected in his last appearance, Thwarted is expected to be slightly favored in tomorrows test. Eddie Arcaro will be astride Mahout, who has a liking for the Belmont track, though it was here that he, bolted when an odds-on choice in the Lawrence Realization when asked to run around the clubhouse turn for the first time. The colt tried to get ; out the same gap in the hedge through which he had always returned to his barn after a workout, and will not have to make i this turn in the Voter. Harold Allgaier will again be astride i Larky Day, while Ted Atkinson is to ride Cencerro, Conn McCreary will pilot Haif ! After and Paul Miller is to ride Calvados.
