To Take Colored Movies Of All Hollywood Races Install Tower in Centerfield; Field Judge System Also Added HOLLYWOOD PARK, Inglewood, Calif., May 22. The Performance Analysis Department at Hollywood Parks 50-day meeting which opens Saturday will be further enhanced by the addition of a 60-foot movie tower located in the centerfield and a field judge system which will spot an expert observer with each cameraman.in each of the four existing movie towers. For the first time in history colored movies will be taken of every foot of each race from the centerfield tower, which will be located almost on a line with the line of finish. These will be ready for projection the following morning for the motion picture reviewing board as well as for the owners, trainers and jockeys who wish to see the pictures of the previous days races in color. Black-and-white pictures will still be taken from the four towers strategically located around the track. These will be available for use by the stewards after each race in case of inquiry. The field judge system was successfully invoked at Tanforan as a substitute for the Performance Analysis when the latter could not be constructed atop the grandstand. The field judges were assigned to the four movie towers where, in addition to focusing their own expert eyes over horses and riders as they passed their particular sector, they could assist the cameramen in shooting anything particularly pertinent to come under observation as the field passed by. Both the Performance Observers and Field Judges will be used at Hollywood Park, as well as the usual patrol judges. The posts are filled by men, all experts in the viewing of races, most of them being former riders. At the conclusion of each race their individual reports, along with those of the stewards, funnel into a central office of the Performance Analysis Department, there to be sifted, co-ordinated, analyzed and prepared for the final colored movie review of the race next morning.
