GALLANT JAKE, under stout restraint while in close attendance to the early pace, assumed command soon after leaving the backstretch and was under pressure to hold the opposition safe. SEXTANT raced forwardly placed from the start, but could not menace the winner in the drive. EPIC CHANCE, slow to settle into stride, worked way between horses, but failed to seriously threaten. LATE SHIP responded to urging, but was not good enough. DIXIE YANKS rally faded in the final quarter. HADHAMAUT showed nothing. HIYA POP was through early. OFF AT 2:38 EASTERN DAYLIGHT TIME. Start good from stall gate. Won driving; second and third the same. GINGER BOOTS alternated in setting and pressing the pace and was strongly urged to gain the decision over GORGEOUS REDED. The latter, apparently best, was unhurried early, was in close quarters leaving the backstretch, was taken out for the drive and was wearing down the top one. FOX RUN attained a slight lead nearing the stretch and gave way. ZEELAND was. always prominent, but lacked a response. KING OKAPI failed to gain a forward position. WARUP was shuffled back at the first turn. BENBOW fattened out after racing forwardly placed. HUNTING FOX quit early. Scratched— 29606 Kentario, 119. Overweight— Fox Run, 1 pound; Warup, 1. COCHISE, unhurried while within striking distance, moved to the leader nearing the stretch and responded to strong and well-assorted urging to earn a dead-heat with POST CARD. The latter was sent to the front immediately and, nicely rated, saved ground while being engaged and held on tenaciously to finish on even terms with COCHISE. LOTOWHITE, slow to reach best stride, could not menace the top pair while rallying. FERD, well placed early, challenged for the lead nearing the stretch, but faltered dunder his weight during the drive. SUN BAHRAM failed to reach .contention. ENDURABLE, unhurried . while in the runner-up position,, responded when roused nearing the stretch, then weakened. MR. TROUBLE saved ground to no avail.
