Cagire, Scratch and Alizier Ascot Gold Cup Favorites LONDON. England, June 4 Reuters. — Cards on the Ascot Gold Cup and Royal Hunt Cup to be run at the Royal Ascot meeting at Berkshire next week were called over for the first time at the Victoria Club tonight. The French-bred? British-trained Cagire was made a 5 to 1 joint choice for the Gold Cup with two French-bred and French-trained horses, Scratch and Alizier. Cagire, winner of the King George VI. Stakes as Ascot last year, was only one of three heavily backed. Scratch won last years St. Leger while Alizier won over two and one-half miles at Longchamp last week. Winston Churchills gray stayer, Colonist, fourth in the Gold Cup last year, also had many backers at 6 to 1. Kelling, last years Cambridgshire Handicap winner, was made favorite for the Royal Hunt Cup with Hyperbole, last years winner, second choice. Prices offered on the Gold Cup were Cagire, Scratch and Alizier, 5 to 1 ; Colonist, 6 to 1; Above Board and Pan, 10 to 1; Lacaduv, 100 to 9; Pardal, 25 to 1, and Double Eclipse, 33 to 1. The Royal Hunt prices were Kelling, 19 to 2; Hyperbole, 100 to 8; Val Dassa, 100 to 7; Fastnet Rock, 100 to 6; Sweet William, 20 to 1; Backtor, 22 to 1; Rodogat, Donoref The Moke, Dorogoi and Astromonte, 25 to 1; Leading Question, 28 to 1, and Hispani-ola, 33 to 1.
