Don Newcombe Found Fit; Must Remain in Service WASHINGTON, D. C, May 28 UP. Pvt. Don Newcombe, biff Negro right handed pitching ace of the Brooklyn Dodgers, has been found physically fit and must remain in the Army, it was announced today. Newcombe, who was reported to have been suffering from a kidney ailment which led to his discharge after brief service during World War II, recently was given a new physical examination at Camp Picket, Va., to determine if he was to be kept for the regular two years of service for inductees. He was inducted last February 26. The Army, in its announcement, merely said the examination showed that Newcombe, who won 20 games for the Dodgers last year, was physically fit for full duty. Newcoinbes rc-examination at Camp Picket was interrupted when he was called home by the illness of his wife.
