Indian Runner Purse Engages Seven Princess Ann After Lincoln RepeatWin Hough Miss Also Scored at Keeneland; Mattafor and Bestapache Fancied in Dash HAWTHORNE, Cicero, 111., May 28. Three-year-olds hold the spotlight at Hawthorne tomorrow as the Lincoln Fields Racing Association enters the second hall of its currently successful 1952 meeting Seven of that age, including a couple ol fillies, were named for the feature race ol the day, the Indian Runner Purse, a six-furlong sprint. The fillies are H. J. Houghs Princess Ann, clever five-length winner of the Lady Broadcast Purse here on May 21, and Howard Wells Roving Kind, a first-starting daughter of Equifox Gypsy Lass. The Lady Broadcast purse was the second win in four starts this season for Princess Ann, a daughter of High Breeze Bubbling Ann. She won her first start of the year and the fourth of her career on April 15 at Keeneland. On the same day when Princess Ann won the Lady Broadcast Purse, John F. Becks Mattafor, a chestnut gelding by Foray Array, out of Mattar, won an overnight event for his second win of the season, the first of which came ass the result of the disqualification of Odsds Advance at the Nev Orleans Fair Grounds last March. In his nine latest starts Mattafor has taken some part of each of eight purses. He lost his rider, Melvin Duhon, in a start at Sportsmans Park on April 21. His consistent record makes the Beck gelding one of the most formidable contenders for the Indian Runner Purse. Besides Mattafor and the two fillies, the others who will contest tomorrows feature are Sam E. Wilson Jrs War Teddy, Valenti Stables Sheriff Crosch, F. B. Brachs Bestapache, and Louis Augustus and Charles Nahms Mr. Dude. Won Two in Row at Oaklawn Bestapache, unraced at two, won two consecutive races in three starts at Oak-lawn earlier in the year before heading north from the Hot Springs track. Sheriff Grosch broke his maiden at New Orleans on February 20. In his only start here, On May 17, he finished third to Plunger. Sheriff Grosch is by Teddys Comet, out of the Man o War mare, War Infant. War Teddy is bred similarly tothe Valenti colt, being by the same sire out of the Man o War mare, Fair Day, who is not to be confused with the Fair Play mare, Fairday, dam of the good Hasty House horse, Inseparable, and others. War Teddy has been racing against good ones and has several "near misses" this year. He has finished second four times in eight starts, the latest being here at Hawthorne on May 24, when Sky Maid beat him. The Wilson gelding broke his maiden at New Orleans last December. Mr. Dude was a winner at two, but has failed to place in five starts this season. Tomorrows secondary attraction is a three-quarter mile dash for four-year-olds and upward. Racing Secretary L. C. Bogen-schutz reminded horsemen that tomorrow is the deadline for subscribing to the Miss America Stakes for two-year-old fillies to be run on June 7. Also closing is the Memorial Day Handicap, a six furlong event which is an added attraction for the holiday program.
