William Goetz to Dispose Of Breeding, Racing Stock California Says Pressure of Business Prompts His Decision By OSCAR OTIS HOLLYWOOD PARK, Inglewood, Calif., May 28. William Goetz, motion picture executive and sportsman, yiho has raced a prominent stable of thoroughbreds for the past few years, including the stakes winner, Your Host, announced today that he is retiring from racing and a complete dispersal sale of both his breeding and racing stock will be held during the Hollywood Park meeting. Goetz stated that the increased pressure of his motion picture business caused him to make the decision to liquidate his thoroughbred holdings. His stable gained prominence when his great handicap champion, Your Host, piled up an enviable record of achievements winning 13 races, finishing second five times and third twice out of 23 starts including the 00,000 Santa Anita Derby and many other nationally known stakes which brought his total earnings to 84,-795. His brilliant career was cut short when he fell during the runring of the 1951 San Pasqual Handicap at Santa Anita. Goetz turquoise and maroon silks again came into the limelight last summer when his fine colt Grantor annexed the Westerner here and his good filly, Thataway, captured both the Lassie and Cinderella Stakes at the same meeting. He currently is racing a full-sister to Your Host, Your Hostess at Hollywood Park. Fasig-Tipton are being contacted to handle the dispersal which will consist of some 20 head of racing stock, 10 broodmares and the stallion Eiffel Tower, the latter standing at Elmhurst Farm in Kentucky. Harry Daniels, trainer of the Goetz thoroughbreds who developed all the Goetz stakes winners and who has conditioned his horses since he entered thoroughbred racing, will continue to handle the stable until the liquidations are completed. Goetz is leaving for Europe June 1 for an extended business trip, but plans to be back in time to be present at the dispersal sale.
