I , I I I , Announce Special Air Service for Racing Folk Capital Schedules Eiglit Flights Daily Between Here and Detroit Special airplane service, catering to horsemen and race track personnel, is being inaugurated by the Capital Airlines, it was announced yesterday by J. W. Austin, Capital vice-president in charge of traffic and sales. Special emphasis is being placed on flights between Chicago and Detroit as well as between Chicago and Naw York. Realizing how much commuting is being done especially between Chicago and the Motor City during the racing season. Capital has decided to extend this service to include eight flights daily. The harness season already is under way in Chicago and Detroit, with Maywood Park here and Hazel Park in Detroit conducting current meetings. The running horse season, of course, has been under way in Chicago since April 20, at Sportsmans Park and will begin at the Micbiian Rac-j ing Associations Detroit Race Course on May 28, followed by Hazel Parks running meeting, also of 57 days. The runners continue here through early November. Owners, trainers and riders are expected to be traveling back and forth between the two cities considerably, especially on the week ends when stake engagements will take them from their center of operations to the track in the other sector. Plane service will enable a trainer or rider to complete his morning chores at one track and be on hand in plenty of time for the after -I noon racing at the other course. The Capital Airlines Purse was featured this afternoon at Sportsmans Park and Austin was on hand from his Washington, D. C. headquarters to witness the event. Wallace I. Gates, district sales marager for Capital, made the presentation to the owner of the winner following the running of the race.
