Joliet Nominations Close Today SPORTSMANS PARK, Cicero, 111., May 12. — Nominations for the first two-year-old stake race on the Illinois circuit, the Joliet Stakes, which is to be run on May 23, the first Saturday of the Lincoln Fields-at-Hawthorne meeting, will close Wednesday night. The Joliet, which is a yearly fixture on the Lincoln stake program, has been raised to 5,000 added this year, a ,000 boost over the 1952 purse. Last years winner was Dean Cavy.
