Lakers Sign Williams, Tall Negro Air Force Cage Star MINNEAPOLIS,. Minn., June 6 UP .— The Minneapolis Lakers today announced they had signed Air Force basketball star Bob Williams, 6-6, for next season. Owner Ben Berger hailed the Negro as "probably the most important player weve signed since George Mikan." Williams will join the Lakers immediately after his discharge from the Air Force next September. "WUliams signing is a big step toward regaining the championship," Berger said. "He assures the Lakers of a top contender again next season." Coach John Kundla said Williams is "the big man well need to replace Jim Pollard," the star Laker forward who has become head cage coach at La Salle College.
