Detroits Rose Leaves To Have Fine Renewal See 12 of 19 Nominees Starting; Four Candidates in Sharp Trials By DON FAIR Staff Correspondent DETROIT RACE COURSE, Livonia", Mich., June 6. — The 10,000 Rose Leaves Stakes at six furlongs, outstanding filly and mare fixture in the Wolverine State, promises to have one of its best renewals here next Saturday afternoon. This years edition of the Rose Leaves drew 19 nominees and, presently it appears that at least a dozen members of the distaff sex will answer "Boots and Saddles" for a try at the week-end headliner. Four of the top candidates for the Rose Leaves visited the lightning fast track here this morning and each turned in a splendid trial, suggesting that barring a mishap all will be under silks come Saturday. George C. White, Nashville, Tennessee, turfman, sent out Mis. Whites homebred pair, Princess Trace and Trip Lightly. Working together in a smart speed test, Princess Trace turned four furlongs in :46% handily .while her hard-hitting stablemate, Trip Lightly, required :46% to complete her trip. Immediately after the White duo pulled up, trainer White expressed himself as being well satisfied with the drills. He pointed out that he may also send Nocal-lula and Cols Daughter to the post in the Rose Leaves. The Tennessee horseman is after his second triumph in the stake, having saddled Our Request to capture the inaugural running in 1949 at the old Fair Grounds course. George W. Morrisons Orchid, a handsome dark brown daughter of Black Tar-quin and Shimmer, displayed High Speed in her three-quarters of a mile trial, moving along in a scintillating 1:12% quite handily. Orchid, conditioned by the former jockey, Sammy Parise, posted the following fractions in her move, the quarter in :23%, half mile in :47% and five furlongs in 1:00%. Mrs. Lawrence Frys Best Air, an old favorite with Detroit racing patrons, stamped herself as ready for -the Rose Leaves completing a five-eights of a mile work in :59% handily. The Fry mare, a six-year-old hombred, the get of Best Seller Second In the Air, passed the quarter mile marker in :23 m;, three furlongs in :35 and the half in :47%. She pulled up nicely after her sharp performance. Marion H. Best race on the Tuesday card at the Detroti Race Course is the six furlongs sixth,, which will bring out seven three -year-olds. Overnight choice in the sprint is Grissom Stables Biddy Sue while, Mrs. Thomas G. Mays Willy Nilly, and the C. and P. Farms Dancing Marjie are also expected to come in for a fair share of "tote" support. C.A. Zubers Dont Move, Triple R. Stables Gay Joy, Mis. Edna Skibbas Tourney, and Myron Smiths Tiger Trip- completes the field for the "off day principal offering.
