TONGA PRINCE, allowed to settle into best stride, moved up with a rush on the outside to take command on the final turn, increased his advantage nearing the furlong marker and continued on gamely thereafter when fully extended. FLEETS CHOICE, sluggish during the early running, came fast when guided to the middle of the track for the stretch run and steadily was wearing down the winner. FLY, much used engaging for the early advantage, had little left when the real test came. FANCY LIVING, forced to take up slightly when in close quarters on the far turn, recovered readily to attain a contending position entering the stretch, but lacked the necessary rally. LONG ROW, forced to be steadied while in close between horses on the final turn, was unable to seriously endanger the leaders when hard ridden through the final furlong. LANGHOLM raced wide. BOLD DUCHESS failed to stay. NUIT DAMOUR and MELNA were outrun. Scratched 52953 Le Gusta, 111; 52197 Apophasis, 122; 53101 Osagian, 113. SEEBIT raced STONEBUR into defeat to assume a clear lead during the run down the backstretch, increased his advantage leaving the final turn and, though tiring during the late stages, had enough left to outlast GOLDEN ARIA. The latter, forwardly placed from the beginning, responded readily when set down for the drive and finished determinedly in a sharp effort. PERFECT POWER worked his way forward to attain a contending position at the furlong marker, but failed to make up appreciable ground thereafter. ELROSE rallied too belatedly to endanger the top ones. SIR SIDNEY tired HARPES and LECOUNT lacked speed. STANDEE raced forwardly for five furlongs then faltered TO THE FRONT and YOUNG AND FAIR never were dangerous. OUR BEAUTY, a sharp factor from the start, was forced to take up slightly when carried out by GASCONY nearing the furlong marker, continued on gamely when clear and, under adept handling, outgamed LEA RONDI. The latter came to the inside to take command when the leader drifted out entering the stretch, but faltered thereafter when placed to pressure and was unable to cope with the top one. MERMAN, always within striking distance, failed to respond sufficiently wh-e" .cMlled upon for his best effort- PALWRE made up some ground when hard ridden through the late stages. CELLINI passed tiring horses. GASCONY drifted out continuously while tiring during the stretch run and lost ?JL!anda.ne- PEEP DIVER began sluggishly and never menaced. BRUNSWICK was always outrun. KRIS KRINGLE and BOMBAST were unable to keep up. BE-WI was under slight restraint during the early running, came to the outside to assume the lead nearing the furlong marker and in a long drive outgamed FOLDING MON. The latter, always within striking distance, responded readily when set down for the drive and finished with good courage in a sharp effort. RECHERCHE was hustled to the front soon after the start, raced forwardly placed to the furlong marker, but had little left when placed to punishment during i the stretch run. VISCOUNT tired. HALF MINUTE, away fastest, failed to stay. WARBLER retired steadily ; from a rapid start. TANKER tried to get out around the turn, then finished willingly when straightened for : the final test. STEAMFITTER ducked sharply to the inside when punished during the late stages. POINT , OF ORDER never was dangerous. Won driving; second and third the same BIG MARK, away sluggishly, steadily improved his position on the outside to attain the runner-up position nearing the furlong marker, responded to brisk urging to take command during the concluding strides and won going away. THIS SIDE forged to the front entering the stretch, faltered slightly when set down for the drive and though unable to withstand the winner held on willingly to easily prevail over the others. PHANTOM SONG alternated in pressing and setting the early pace, then had little left when called upon for his best effort. WIGWAM lacked the necessary rally. BRISUET retired steadily after flashing brief speed, but lasted to finish on even terms with PERMAN. The latter lacked speed. SOUR NOTE was unable to attain the lead and tired. PAPER TIGER, slow to settle into best stride, responded readily to gain closer contention when guided to the outside leaving the final turn, continued in the middle of the track for the stretch run and, under adept handling, was along in the concluding strides to outgame STRAIGHT FACE. The latter, forced to take up slightly when impeded by LYCHNUS leaving the gate, recovered readily to remain within striking distance of the leaders while in the clear during the run down the back-stretch, came out to obtain a slight lead at the furlong marker, then held on determinedly thereafter in a sharp effort. RED HANNIGAN outsprinted his rivals into the first turn to assume a clear early lead, remained next to the inner rail while holding sway to the stretch and. after relinquishing the lead at the furlong marker, continued on gamely under brisk urging. SOUTHARLINGTON, always within striking distance, made up some ground when hard ridden through the final furlong. LYCHNUS broke to the inside and bumped STRAIGHT FACE, regained best stride to race in closest pursuit of the leader for six furlongs, then tired. MIDAFTERNOON, unhurried when outrun early, moved up with a rush on the outside to attain a contending position leaving the final turn and, continuing in the middle of the track, took command when ready inside the stretch and briskly drew clear. SONNY MARS assumed a clear lead soon after the start, gave way momentarily to PEPPERMINT KID nearing the furlong marker, but after regaining the lead thereafter, was unable to withstand the challenge of the winner. PEPPERMINT KID . moved from the outside to reach the lead between calls entering the stretch, drifted out slightly while tiring thereafter and was unabje to cope with the top pair. TONAPAH saved ground to no avail. MAHOUT II. was unable to keep ud. MR. PHAL raced wide. LITTLE HUT retired steadily after showing early speed. Scratched 524681 Mielleux, 120.
