-i VANDER POOL IN FRONT Allen Star Romps to Victory in Kindergarten Stakes. 4 Son of Campfire Still Unbeaten ? Inception Accounts for Mount Royal Purse. BOWIE, Md., April 10. Vander Pool, tho unbeaten, was a ridiculously easy winner of the Kindergarten Stakes this afternoon for Mrs. M. P. Allen. All through the stretch W. Kelsay, who had the mount, was easing him up and looking back at the others while the colt galloped along with his ears pricked. By reason of being eased up in the final eighth, the son of Campfire only beat the Rancocas Stables Schooner by a length, but he had literally galloped the half mile in :47 under a burden of 124 pounds to earn the ,910 award. Another delightful day resulted in a big attendance being on hand. The track was at its best and the setting for the Kindergarten Stakes was attractive. Little time was lost at the barrier in he Kindergarten Stakes, though Sonny Fronk acted so badly that he was placed outside the stalls. Schooner beat Vander Pool away from the barrier, but the Allen colt was alongside in a half dozen strides and then on past to take the lead. Golden Legend, from the Dorwood Stable, was in third place and Sonny Fronk led Airliner and Gay Cabal-lero, the only other starters. Once Kelsay had Vander Pool in the lead it really was no race. He permitted the colt to race the first quarter in :23 and that was fast enough to keep him clear of Schooner, while the Rancocas colt was showing the way to Golden Legend. The running order remained unchanged all through the race. An eighth out, after Vander Pool had opened up a lead of four lengths, Kelsay took hold of him and looked back at Schooner, the only one that was a possible menace. Vander Pool was romping along with his ears pricked and Kelsay continued to ease him up in the final eighth. CREDITABLE PERFORMANCE. Golden Legend, though beaten for second place by four lengths, ran a creditable race and will undoubtedly improve on his showing. Airliner, on the other hand, ran a dull race and was far back all the way. Joseph E. Davis Gigantic, a juvenile son of Trojan and Prodigious, showed evidence of real class when he was an easy winner of the opening race for two-year-old maidens. Outrun to the stretch, he finished with a rush through the final quarter to finish the distance in :47 and be winner by five lengths. Royal Mystery, racing for Howard Bruce, took second place and third was the portion of G L. Strykers Aulularia, when she led home Star Polly, from the Flamingo Farm Stable. There was a long delay at the post, for which Gigantic was largely to blame, but the start was a good one. Royal Mystery got away fast and Mental was right after him, and Aulularia was showing the way to the others. Spirit River began well, but he almost at once dropped back badly and it was evidently because of greenness. G. W. Campbells old Campfire gelding, Encamp, recently beaten by Burlap, was winner of the second race, in which all were to be claimed for ,000. J. Goffs Shasta Pebble raced to second place and Guy Man-gans Business, after racing with the leaders all the way, was an easy third before Dreana Lee. Fourteen went to the post and the start was a good one, with Encamp at once going to . the front. Business was soon close after him and, leaving the back stretch, the filly drew ; away slightly, but it cost her an effort and when the stretch was reached Encamp was in the command to lead the way home. i HE It ORACH NAHK0WLY. t It was a cheap band of three-year-olds that . went to the post for the Holly Beach Purse. This saw Ral Parrs Her Grace the winner by a narrow margin from Billy Blake, from the Meadow Farms Stable, while Lost Agnes. I racing for the Montpelier Farm Stable beat St. Tuscan for third. . Her Grace is a daughter of Bright Knight I and Markliuna, which has been nominated for , both the Preakness and the Kentucky Derby. It was her first appearance under silks since the July meeting at Aqueduct last year and a decidedly impressive showing. Lost Agnes was also making her first appearance of the year. The start was a good one and Her Grace quickly went into the lead to force a fast 1 pace. Billy Blake and Lost Agnes were not far back, while Skirl, the II. P. Whitney starter, of which great things were expected. had scant speed and soon dropped back " badly. As the leaders turned in the stretch 3 both Billy Blake and Lost Agnes were close : after the Parr filly, but she held to her task Continued ou sixteenth page. VANDER POOL IN FRONT Continued from first page. resolutely and at the end still had her head in front. Billy Blake had beaten Lost Agnes and St. Tuscan finished with a rush that saw him closely lapped on the filly. Skirl, after running a dull race, was blocked in the stretch when Robertson elected to race on the inside, but it made no difference in the result, for he was soundly beaten at the time. There was a good race in the Mount Royal Purse and Mrs. Chaneys Inception was winner over A. W. Wentzels Florida Derby winner Titus, with Mrs. Pollards Uluniu saving third from W. L. Brodies Wellet, with Arc-turus the only other starter. After some delay at the post, it was Inception and Uluniu went out to set the pace. They drew away rapidly, while Robertson was content to rate Titus along back of them and Wellet and Arcturus were further back. Leyland refused to take back from Inception and that probably cost Uluniu second place, for the four-year-old tired in the final eighth and Titus ran past him for that part of the purse.
