WRIGHT SILKS TO THE .FORE Victorious Ann and Talked About Win for Chicagoan at Empire. Latter In Splendid Effort In First Attempt Over Mile and Seventy Yards Camera Decides Winner In Both Races. YONKERS, N. Y., Oct. 28. The silks of Warren Wright scored a thrilling double at the Hilltop course today when both Victorious Ann and Talked About were home in front, but each only won by a matter of inches and it took the camera to make the decision in each case. Talked Abouts victory was the more impressive, for the uncertain son of The Porter Lucille Wright was asked to race a. mile and seventy yards for the first time and he was rather weakly handled by Anderson when it came to the drive in the stretch, Iwhen he barely beat Mrs; Ethel D. Jacobs Duel, one that had some seasoning at the distance. Third went to William Woodwards Riparian, and the only other starter was Swift Lad. The Woodward colt was the one to go to the front leaving the stalls, and Horn took him out two lengths under steadying restraint. Talked About followed, also under restraint and Duel was close after tho Wright colt and racing along on the inside. Swift Lad, one of the choices in the small field, had scant speed and raced last of the four all the way. It was not until rounding from the back stretch that Talked About drew up on Riparian, and at the same time Sammy Renick slipped through on the inside with Duel. Talked About was a length to the good as he rounded into the stretch and was going strongly when Anderson, for no good reason, drew his whip, and as he swung in he dropped his mounts head and Duel drew closer. BY SMALLEST MARGIN. For a few strides it appeared Duel was the sure winner, but Talked About, coming again gamely, was the one to show his nose in front. Riparian was also closing fast after being well beaten at the head of the stretch, and he was just a neck away from the battling pair. There came a thrilling finish In the Napanoch Purse, for fillies and mares, when Warren Wrights Victorious Ann and Mrs. W. Plunkett Stewarts Sea Cradle swept past the line so closely lapped that the judges required a photograph to make the decision. Three lengths back of these, Andy Schut-tingers Fortification saved third from William Woodwards Valse, and the only other starter was Terpsichore. Sea Cradle was the one to set the pace, and Fortification and Victorious Ann followed her with the winner under slight restraint as Arcaro held his position. Going to the stretch turn Fortification tired slightly and there Victorious Ann drew alongside Sea Cradle. A furlong out. Wall went to the whip on Sea Cradle, but Victorious Ann continued to gain under a powerful hand ride. Thus it was that the pair came to the line and right at the end Sea Cradle was coming again, but it was the nose of Victorious Ann that was showing in front when the camera made its decision. OFF AND ON BEST. William Elders Off and On proved best of the maiden juvenile fillies that met in the opening five and three-quarters furlongs dash. She ran down Victor Emanuels Sorceress to win going away by a length and u half and the Genie miss beat Al Jolsons Totem Pole a length for the place. Odd Girl was first to show frpm a good start but Sorceress soon raced by her to open up a lead of daylight, where she was taken in hand by Arcaro and rated along. Off and On was not as alert leaving the stalls but she was soon making up ground steadily and at the ,head of the stretch moved into second place. In the final furlong Sorceress tired suddenly and Off and On raced by her to her comparative easy victory. Totem Pole was away slowly and closed with a rush to take her share of the purse. There was a Hirsch Jacobs score in tho second, another five and three-quarters, furlong dash, and four cheap two-year-olds when Ethels Choice, racing in her best form, won with plenty to spare over George D. Wideners Candlelight and lapped on the son of Jamestown, came Voldear, while His Nibs took fourth. Ethels Choice left the stalls running and Kastner made every use of her early speed when he sent her into a lead of two lengths in the first furlong. She was at no time threatened and at the end she had increased her advantage to four lengths Candlelight, as in his other races was slow to find his racing-legs, but he circled around the others, when In full flight closing a big gap to take the place. Voldear also closed a big gap, coming from last place for his share.
