POIGNANCY could not reach the first flight early and lacked a menacing rally. NEWTOWN saved ground and finished well. MUSICIAN was hard pressed setting the early pace and quit. RED POMPON rushed to the front while in hand at the half mile, paced his field under restraint, then was energetically hand ridden to hold safe the opposition while drifting wide. QUICKSET was always a forward factor and finished determinedly on the outside of the winner. MACKIES PALL, under snug restraint "on the inside, failed to make up ground in the final run. GAUNTLET was reserved behind the first flight, then could not get up. HIGHLAND, BUZZER was under strong restraint when displaced, then drifted wide while tiring. PEPPER LOU showed nothing. COCKOFTHEWALK held the lead from the beginning under steady handling and increased his advantage through the stretch, while being ridden out GARY LESLIE loomed badly on the final turn, weakened slightly, but lasted over BULL LEAD. The latter was in closest pursuit of the top pair and finished well under his impost PERCIVALE could not engage the leaders and tired. SURPASS began fast, made a mild bid on the final turn, then weakened. ADMIRALS TUNE saved ground throughout and finished evenly. HI ANTE worked his way forwardly between horses from a slow start DEEP STAR lacked early speed. FICKLEROSE showed nothing. SWEET BUTTER dropped back early. RESTLESS WAVES steadily made up distance to open a clear lead rounding into the stretch, then responded to strong handling and lasted to best DEALER. The latter, reserved far off of the pace for a half mile, came slightly wide into the stretch and appeared to hang in the mid-stretch, then closed gamely at the end. GALOOT was a keen factor throughout, but weakened slightly in the final run. EXCISE TAX made up distance late without menacing. DAYROUND tired. CURTAIN TIME was urged through next to the rail to reach a short lead early, drew clear entering the stretch, then could not resist the winner. PENSON, unhurried while unable to seriously contend early, came slightly wide for the drive and finished willingly. ARTHUR PILATE saved ground and finished well.
