RYE IS A GOOD RACEHORSE. Bye, the three-year-old bay gelding by Greenan Degenerate, daughter of Tenny and Ilimyanee, is not alone a real standby with the betting public in the east this season, but be is a genuine racehorse bargain. Bye was bred by J. B. Ilaggin at 131-mendorf Stud in Kentucky, lie was foaled on April 11, 100."!, and was sold as a yearling at Sheepshead Bay" June 21, 1004. He was knocked down to Mike Clancys bid of 50. This veteran bought him for C. 1. Sullivan, bis present owner. He was turned over to John Hynes to train and made his first start at Brighton Beach July , 1903. lie won the fifth tiincput, after he had been taken to Providence. As a two-year-old Bye started nine times, won three races, was second three times and unplaced three times, earning ,0-10. This year he has started thirteen times, won seven, been second four times and unplaced twice, earning 1906.sh,300. This makes bis total winnings to date ,500, to say nothing of the vast sums his connections hare taken from the bookmakers. He never starts but what he is backed for thousands. It is said that his victory at Brighton Beach Thursday cost the ring at least 00,000. His people are alive to his capabilities and have displayed excellent judgment in selecting his races. While lie has more than average speed -and lias won at a mile in I:39i, lie has displayed no fancy for weight. He likes 105 pounds or less in his saddle and appears to race best with about 100 pounds up.- Walter Miller has ridden him in all of his victories this season and Tom Welch is saddling him now. Incidentally, it may be mentioned that Bye is the first foal of Degenerate aud she iu turn is the first foal of Ilimyanee. Hlmyance, was a daughter of Pirate of Penzance. She was never raced. Mamie Brady, the two-year-old filly in the stable of J. W. .May, Is a half sister to Bye. She is by Longstreet. Trainer May bought her as a yearling for 00 on September 5 last. She started a couple of times at Sheepshead Bay, but was unplaced.
