BAIKALS INJURY PROVES FATAL. Baikal, the six-year-old bay gelding by Patton Secret, owiicd by George W. Poole, has been, or wjjl be destroyed. Baikal broke t0WR n his fost. race, which was at Windsor on July C. Mr. Poole In the belief that there might be a chance to restore him, left the horse in the care of an acquaintance and came to Chicago. Yesterday he received a telegram advising him that Baikals case was hopeless and that the horse would have to be destroyed. Mr. Poole is here to take up some horses that have- been running out ou a nearby farm. He will train them at Harlem. There arc about forty horses In training at Harlem now. Ed. Trotter Is there with his entire string. It is said to be his intention to remain at this track until the opening of the meeting at Douglas Park, Louisville.
