FORTUNE SMILES ON ARKELL AGAIN. Report has it that W. J. Arkell has made a fortune in the Nevada gold fields, locating a rich ledge in the Manhattan section which has rehabilitated him financially. Arkell was for a number of years a prominent figure in New York as the proprietor of the comic publication Judge, and took a lively interest in turf affairs. At one time lie owned quite a number or racers, some entirely and some in partnership with Gwyn R. Tompkins. Perhaps the best horse In which he was Interested was the noted stayer Hindoocraft, In memory of which his strike at Manhattan was called the Hindoocraft gold mine. Broken in fortune, Arkell went to Tonopah some three years ago, with favorable results, If the report that has "drifted east is well founded.
