It is emphatically a race for stayers, its one mile and five furlongs being certain to find and exiwse any deficiency in stamina. Its fastest running was in IPO:!, when the splendid Africander defeated Golden Maxim and Savable and, in running the distance in 2:15, set a record that remains undisturbed to this day.
