Tlje stake list for the first meeting at the new Lulu Island race track under the auspices of the British Columbia Thoroughbred Association, was announced by Charles Lewis on his return from Victoria, whither lie went to confer witli Judge Robert Leighton regarding the program for the meeting, which opens on Saturday, August 21. The Vancouver meeting will run a week longer than originally intended and there will be thirty-one actual racing days between opening day and the closing on September 25. During that time there, will be distributed in stakes the sum of ,000. while the daily purses will aggregate alKut 5,000 more. There are eleven early closing stakes, three valued at ,000 apiece and the rest worth 00 each. The big races of the meeting will be the Inauguration Handicap at one mile on opening day, the Van- couver Derby at a mile and an eighth on Saturday, August 20, and the Labor Day Handicap at a mile and a quarter on Monday.
