NEW JUMPERS FROM ABROAD Jockey Crawford to Train and Ride Three Prospective Stars NEW YORK N Y February S R H Specs Crawford first crosscountry rider for J S Cosden last year will race a string of horses this year that he will train as well as ride for George and James Clark two sportsmen who have come into that end of racing Last fall Crawford went abroad in search of promising material for the stable and he has made three notable purchases that are already on their way to this country countryThe The three horses purchased are White Satin Double Tip and Not Much They were shipped on the Mesaba Wednesday and con ¬ signed to Dr R W McCully McCullyThe The most notable one of the trio is prob ¬ ably White Satin This one is a fouryearold son of White Eagle and Jeans Folly by Ayr ¬ shire This colt sold for 17500 as a yearling and was bred at the National Stud He is rated as one of the best hurdlers in England and on his blood lines ought to prove a truly valuable stock horse when his racing days are over overDouble Double Tip is a fiveyearold son of Bache ¬ lors Double and Obsequious by St Serf bred by H S Gray and after being considered one of the best horses of his year in Ireland proved a brilliant performer over the hurdles in France FranceNot Not Much is an eightyearold son of Pri ¬ mer and Pop the Question by Barbine This one was bred by H J Bailey and raced well over hurdles in England last year and the year before He also raced with a full meas ¬ ure of success in both India and France FranceTaking Taking a line through Ards the son of Marajax and Natia by Soliman that was brought over by A J Davis last year it would seem that Crawford made no mistake in selecting hurdlers instead of steeplechasers in his purchases Ards proved a brilliant steeplechaser over the American courses and it was only his unsoundness that prevented him from attaining greatness greatnessCrawford Crawford will both train and ride these importations and with such a trio of horses of proved ability it will be surprising indeed if the Clark Brothers do not cut a decidedly important figure in the steeplechases of the year
