TARTAR IN TEN BUTTONS Irwin Racer Too Much for Heav ¬ ily Backed Filly Dolores Don Jose In Easy Triumph Angela Rewards Her Followers Irosity an Out ¬ standing Surprise SAN DIEGO Cal February S A filly by Disguise Dolores by name was an intended good thing at the Tijuana track yesterday afternoon But those who favored her had not reckoned with Ten Buttons So it hap ¬ pens once again that C B Irwin produced the winner of the afternoons feature at five and a half furlongs furlongsThere There was such a splurge to back Dolores that she was made a heavy oddson choice and her opening price of 3 to 1 in the books was hammered down to 7 to 10 at post time with none of the layers anxious to write tickets at the latter figure She had a good eastern campaign and fast workouts here to recommend her as a winner She was just a trifle short thats all and was de ¬ feated by a horse that was ready when the race was run runStarting Starting to good advantage Dolores held sway and looked all over a winner a six ¬ teenth out but here she began to tire and despite all the efforts of jockey Taplin to keep her going she did not have enough left to stall off the closing bid of Ten Buttons It was a close finish the margin being half a length Joella J weighted with only 96 pounds ran a good race to be third thirdThe The field of seven paraded with great en ¬ thusiasm it being one of those handicaps in which Ten Buttons and Dolores stood out with opinion seemingly about equally divided as to the winning one On one side was J M Crane declaring that Dolores would do it On the other was Irwin confident that Ten Buttons would be victorious Each had a great following and it made for thrills not generally found at a race course on a mid ¬ week afternoon The race in 106 was within one second of the track record recordAlthough Although he had won at a mile though his victory was not of recent date Don Jose even with jockey Pool up was made second choice to Miss Emma G in the fourth Pool despite the fact that his mount had an out ¬ side position at post moved into the lead when the first quarter was reached From this point to the end Don Jose had things his own way and won by two lengths with Miss Emma G being second and Baisy third This was the only winner Pool had during the afternoon afternoonThe The seventh race brought together the best of the second string sprinters here and it Continued ou twelfth pace TARTAR IN TEN BUTTONS Continued from first page was a difficult contest for the talent to judge as several appeared as having about equal chances It was at fiveeighths but the tal ¬ ent settled on the right one when Angela was made the choice Petzoldt had the winner away to good advantage and she was never menaced Nearest to her was Hazel Dale but she tired from chasing Angela and at the last minute Pay Off with Pool in the saddle came with a rush to be second and Hazel Dale fell back to third place placeTho Tho last race at one mile and seventy yards furnished a surprise winner in Irosity carrying the colors of George W Wingfield owner of the Nevada Stock Farm This daughter of Atheling II and Lady Trinity sort of toyed with her opponents Jockey P Hurn had tlwj mount and the filly with only eightysix pounds to carry raced under re ¬ straint and assumed the lead over Barris kane at the threequarters Irosity con ¬ tinued ultimately winning by five lengths Best of the others was Barriskane just a neck ahead of Donatello DonatelloAngela Angela was claimed out of the seventh race by R M Hollenbeck for 1200 In the last race C B Irwin lost one of his favorites when Regreso was claimed for 1400 The claim was made by Z E McGregor McGregorIt It has been announced that with the nom ¬ ination fees and declarations to remain in the Coffroth Handicap at this date now has the total of 4375 This does not include the 30000 added by the Jockey Club It is declared there will be twenty starters and if this figure is correct the total value of the stake will be 37375 This will mean the big reward of 29875 to the winner winnerThe The stewards have terminated the suspen ¬ sion of the stables of W M Cassity and L O Cassity Company which was imposed several weeks ago in connection with the horses Maynard L and Bert Dennison The refusal of the entries of these horses is made permanent They were bought from their breeders Williams Brothers of Blackwell Okla last October as foals of 1921 The certificates furnished to the purchasers stated them to have been foaled in the first week of March 1921 which would make them twentytwo months old in January of this year In addition to their regular re ¬ sources the stewards asked the assistance of the state verterinary department of Cali ¬ fornia with the result that the horses were reported to have been respectively twenty seven and thirty months old when examined about ten days ago This would make them late summer foals of 1920 The named foal list of 1920 shows no report to the American Stud Book of any foals of that year for Paris Queen and Morning Glory the dams of these colts It is understood that Cassitys will take steps to recover the money paid for Maynard L and Bert Dennison whose usefulness as race horses ended before it began
