Tventy Years Ago Today Chief Turf Events of August 17, I9D4 Racing at Saratoga, Hawthorne, St. Louis Fair Grounds and Highland Park at Detroit. It is said to be settled that the Duryca entry in the Futurity will be Tanya, Rose of Dawn and ArtfuL Waterboy has run his last race. This declaration was made today by trainer Jack Joy-ner. The black son of Watercress Zealandia will be sent to Elmendorf Farm, the breeding establishment of J. B. Haggin, his owner, at Lexington, Ky. Africander found the soft going grateful at Saratoga and, displaying his old-time speed, won a minor handicap today. Graziallo was second and Go Between third and following the latter was Major Daing3rfield, which ran well for seven furlongs, but tho track must be heavy for the latter to show his best. Monday night after McChesney arrived at his stable and his caretakers were coding him out it was discovered that during his race he had been cut in several places. The most severe of tho cuts was one well on his stifle. This looked like it had been made by one of the spurs of the other riders and probably occurred when the big chestnut was pocketed at the head of the stretch.
