GIBLON IN FINE FORM Takes the Plamondon Handicap Like a High-Class Colt. Sanola Wins the Great Norther Hotel Handicap in a Hot Finish With The Runt. HAWTHORNE RACE TRACK, August 16. Sanola, which has raced with rare consistency here, again figured in a winning performance, her eighth success at this meeting, when she led a, good band of sprinters home that started in the Great Northern Hotel Handicap of ,500. Following her closely and putting up a stubborn battle came The Runt, with Marionette in third place, just heading Brunswick for that portion of the purse. It was Sanolas best performance of the meeting and she raced in truly game style. She was badly outpaced in the early running, Brunswick setting a fast pace for the going, pursued by The Runt, and for the first half they appeared as if they would fight it out to the finish. Sanola, however, got settled in her stride in the stretch and gradually began overhauling these in advance of her by a short neck. After heading Brunswick The Runt had an undisputed lead, but he could not withstand the fillys resolute challenge. Ideal weather and a splendid racing offering served to bring out the full strength of against him. Giblon set all doubts at rest first-time visiting delegation. The racing was spirited, although the track was sLow from the rain of last night. Ring action was jrpjjbhempst;feiverjsli of the meeting WidrasheBrsexell extensivelysup-pcrted, the public combined profit with their pleasure. GHtLOX CONCEDES "WEIGHT The crack three-year-old colt Giblon came back to racing after his lay-off since his start in the Chicago Derby, in which he met a slight injury, and raced in his best style, winning as his rider pleased in the mile and and a sixteenth handicap from some good ones of more mature years and conceding them much weight, actual and by the scale. There were dcubters as to his ability to win, resulting in a liberal price being quoted against him. Giblon set all doubts at rest as to his fitness when he moved up promptly into a good lead and only fooled with his followers. At one time he allowed The Roll Call to get within two lengths of him, but lie raced away when called on and when Red AVingfield challenged in the stretch he sprinted away again and Avas under restraint at the end. The race will improve him and he looms up as a formidable proposition for the best entered in the Chicago Special. Harned Brothers and Jones, in addition to winning the principal race, scored a double when Oolfiii won the opening race from Devil Girl and Gread Lady. Harned Brothers and Jones had designs on three of the afternoons races. Special in the second race being relied on to consummate the triple. He was a bad medium and figured but slightly in the early running and was far back when it came to the real racing. The winner here turned up in Mark Master, which in a preceding race suffered a disqualification for fouling. Moon Magic finished in second place and Louis Ruben-stein managed to land third. FAVORITE FAILS. The worst disappointment of the afternoon came with the defeat of Sagamook in tne fifth race. He was backed to the exclusion of the ethers and finished in last place, far back of all, Mary Ellen O. winning from "Wong Bok, with Hoy in third place. The poor performance of Sagamook prompted the stewards to send a veterinarian to examine the horse. The veterinarian reported him to be in gcod condition. It might be that the cuppy going mitigated against him. He is accustomed to running in a bar plated and that did not help him much. The concluding race fell to Huonec, with Virginins second after a spectacular stretch duel. Both had come from far back, with Virginius, after closing an immense gap, rushing momentarily into the lead. He succumbed, however, when he appeared the winner and Huonec beat him to the finish by a length. Yorick-landed in third place.
