GETAWAY DAY AT FORT ERIE Wraith Defeats Sarko in McNaughton Handicap, t Trcvan an Easy Winner of Secondary Attraction 1yroot Sets 3icw Track Record. FORT ERIE, Ont, Aug. 1C Wraith finished a length in front of Sarko in the McNaughton Handicap the feature race of the final day of racing at the course of the Niagara Racing Association. Two lengths farther back at the end of the six furlongs was Radiancy. The winner carried the silks of J. W. Dayton and was ridden by Terry Wilson. McTaggart had Trevan away from the barrier and took up a lead of four lengths in the first quarter in the first race. Prince Hampton cut this lead in half while rounding the turn into the stretch but could not get closer than that to the son of Treviscot. Sun Hope failed to improve her position under pressure and had to be ridden out to save third place from Protectress. II. Thomas followed Watch Charm closely to the first turn with G. W. Foremans Elemental in the second race and then opening up a three length lead was forced to ride his mount out to win by a length from Phil Mayers which finished fast from a slow beginning. Watch Charm hung on gamely and took third place. J- Although the principal race on the card was not high in the class cf the contestants, it provided a good contest and, with the help of six other races, brought out the larjjkst crowd of either of the summer meetings. There were approximately 10,000 peQp"lS"in attendance this af ternoon. The track was fast and the weather pleasant, although clouds cbscured the sun practically through -outthCfeday- JjVW vtandandBtLandand Sarko had the most earl583peedinTthe McNaughton Handicap. He went to the front immediately after the start and was rated along a length in advance of Reply to the turn. At this point Reply began to tire and Wraith moved into the second position. Straightened out in the stretch AVilscn called on Wraith and challenged Sarko. Wraith had the most speed left and drew away in the final drive. There will be no racing Monday on the Canadian Racing Associations circuit, but the sport will be resumed Tuesday at the course of the Windsor Jockey dub. The crowd booed the decision which placed Pyroot first before Pictin in the opening race. At the end of the five furlongs Pictin was quitting after having been in front all the way, and Pyroot was at the height of his final drive, after having followed the leader Continued on sixteenth rage. Pyroot clipped a fifth of a second off the track record, running the five furlongs in 1 :00. In the Iroquois Handicap Trevan was away in front and was never headed. He carried the silks of E. J. Morrow and was starting for the first time since that owner claimed him from A. C. Bostwick. Prince Hampton followed him closest all the way and finished second. Sun Hope was third throughout and finished in that position. The race served as a secondary attraction to the feature. Giuseppe ran poorly yesterday, but came from behind today in the fifth nice and won by a length from Beth Hodder, which got up in the final strides to beat Fornovo by nose. Black Shasta set the early pace, closely followed by Gen. Cadcrna. On the turn Fornovo moved to the front and appeared to be the winner, but Roberts called on the S. Polk gelding and he finished fast and won going away. Beau of the AVest, AAar Tank and Harp of Prcphecy finished first, second and third in the sixth race and had the race between them at all stages of the one mile and a sixteenth. AVar Tank set the pace around the first turn, closely followed by Beau of the AVest. In the backstretch Harp of Prophecy came from third to second position. On the far turn Beau of the AVest sprinted past both j cf them into the lead and they continued in that order to the end. The Gaff followed the leaders closely in the early running and went to the front on the turn into the stretch and won easily by two lengths. Sir Galahad II. was second by four lengths.
