; 1 MANY HORSES FOR AURORA Improvements Progressing" at a Rapid Rate-- Track Converted from Half-Mile to One-Mile. AURORA, 111,, Aug. 1G. Progress is being made on the construction of the track here and it will be fully completed several days before the scheduled opening of the race meeting, that will continue for 25 days, beginning September C. The inaugural program book, covering the firs.t . weeks racing was issued to horsemen yesterday and it -found favor among the owners. No purse will be of less value than 00 with handicaps of ?1,000 featuring. John T. Carey has been appointed presiding judge with Francis Dunne, associate judge. Mr. Carey will also serve as the racing secretary. Lester Dean will be the starter. That there will be no lack of bookmakers and the newly constructed mile track is apparent by the expressions of most of the odds quoters at Hawthorne, who intend operating at Aurora.
