MRS. W. K. VANDERBILT PURCHASES NICHOLAS SARATOGA SPRINGS, N. Y., Aug. 16. Mrs. AV. K. Aranderbilt II., has added the good juvenile Nicholas to the racing string that is campaigned by her under the name of the Fair Stable. Nicholas is a dark gray son of Stefan the Great and Eaton Bass and has won both the Albany Handicap and the Sanford Memorial for Frank J. Farrell. Both of these victories were so impressive that many good judges have pronounced him the best of the year, though he still has Sunny Man and American Flag to beat to make his leadership unquestioned. Nicholas was one of the horses that was catalogued to be sold with the other Farrell horses recently, but he was withdrawn from the auction to the disappointment of several prospective bidders. AVhile the price paid by Mrs. Aranderbilt was not made public it is said to have been 0,000 which is a high one considering the fact that Nicholas is not as well engaged as some of the good juveniles of the year.
