HAWTHORNE MEETING PLANS Three Stakes, One of 5,000 and Two of ,000 Each. Chicago Business Mens Racing Association Elects Officers and Announces List of Racing Officials. The Chicago Business Mens Racing Association convened at the Congress Hotel Monday evening and elected the following officers : John Schank, president ; Joseph A. Murphy, vice-president; Al Sabath, vice-president ; Charles Krutchkof f ; treasurer ; Tom McHale ; assistant treasurer, and Charles W. Bidwill, secretary. The race meeting of 1927 is booked for opening on August 15, and great plans are under way. Three stakes will be run during tho eighteen days headed by the Hawthorne Handicap with 5,000 auded. There will also be two stakes of ,000 each. The racing secretary is now at work on the conditions of these stakes. No purse less than ,200 will be offered, there will be a ,500 feature each day and on Wednesdays, one of ,500. It is the intention of the officers of this track to see that nothing is omitted in the way of improvements to make it not only attractive, but comforable and pleasant for its people. The work of enlarging the grandstand and other improvements are steadily under way to the extent of 50,000 and a new Hawthorne will greet the public when the gates are reopened. The officials of the meeting will be: Stewards, Joseph A. Murphy, S. C. Nuckols and Thos. C. Bradley ; judges, Herman C. Conkling and John Carey ; racing secretary ; Joseph McLennan ; starter, Harry Morrissey; clerk of the scales, Francis Dunne ; paddock judge, A. E. Blanehard ; timer, Walter Gumm ; official veterinary, Dr. J. M. Kaiser ; official messenger. Max Murphy. Both president Schank and general manager Murjjhy are advocates of the four patrol judge system connected with the stewards stand. If competent men can be secured this system will be carried out. At the close of the Fairmount meeting, manager Murphy will come direct to Chicago to take personal charge of the meeting.
