ENDOR IS A BIG SURPRISE Earns Winners Share of Feature Race at Hamilton. Gains Decision Over Great Rock in Spirited Finish Deronda Gives Splendid Performance. HAMILTON, Ont, June 28. Offered as the main contest on todays program of seven races at the home of the Hamilton Jockey Club was the Burlington Purse and, with the running and decision came a surprise, when Endor, racing for O. Viau, the Montreal sportsman, earned the winners share of the purse when he" withstood a long tedious drive in faultless fashion to gain a head verdict from D. Raymonds Great Rock. The latter came from well back of the field to finish with a belated rush that was rapidly carrying him to victory and, with a few more strides to negotiate, he surely would have accomplished his task. Golden Rule, sporting the silks of C. Bild, was the one to account for the third place, and at. the.end he was just beaten a head and a neck by the pair that led him to the winning line. Endor and Great Rock were the last two away from the barrier. In the run to the first turn War Man reached it slightly before the others and he raced around the turn showing the way. Endor was rushed along on the inside and Seremba crowded his way through a narrow passage to reach the leaders as they straightened away on the b?.ckstretch. War Man was soon displaced from the leadership by Endors high speed, and before the others were aware, a gap of three lengths was opened up. This served the winner well, he he shortened strides in the final eighth, and a rousing finish just made him last long enough. Great Rocks race was a better one than any of the starters as he was a trailer and far out of contention until the final quarter, when he finished with" a remarkable rush to be beaten a short head. SUNCREST TO THE FORE. The Canadian Juvenile Plate for maiden two-year-olds of Canadian parentage had-the initial place on the program and with the running, came an easy victory for the Cedar Crest Farms Suncrest, which was installed a strong choice. She never left the result in doubt after taking command at the rise of the barrier. She dashed away into a good early lead which served her well throughout, and at the end was showing the way to Auto Da Fe by a margin of four lengths. Auto Da Fe in his previous appearance under colors bolted out badly and Fishman, who had the amount again, fearing a like occurrence, failed to ride his mount in the dashing manner he displays and at no stage of tho journey was he a troublesome factor. Mark Master proved to be much the bestt of the even dozen that vied for honors in the second race that was decided over the three-quarters mile route and for which the winner came in for extensive support and he incidentally proved to be the second successful favorite to make good. Conditions for the contest stipulated that each contestant have the services of a maiden rider and several likely prospects were noticeable among them, although the race was marred by several jams which in most cases are unavoidable in such large fields. Mark Master was kept within striking distance of the leaders, and when ready took command in the last eighth to score easily. Eight of the better grade sprinters paraded to the post for the three-quarters dash, which occupied the fourth position on the program, and a spirited contest resulted with tho running. G. W. Foreman had his colors successfully carried to a hard-earned victory by last seasons Canadian sensation, Knock-any, which, incidentally, won for the third consecutive time in as many starts.
