MISHAPS IN STEEPLECHASE NEW YORK, N. Y., May 29.— While Charlie Mergler walked from the field after his fall with Mm Peggie B. Baileys Belgenland at the last jump in the steeplechase Monday, it was afterwards discovered that he had suffered a broken collarbone. Belgenland wae not so fortunate, for he broke a leg and was destroyed. It was the first start for the son of Black Toney through the steeplechase field and, until his fall, he performed in a manner that gave promise of his developing into a first-class performer.
