PIOUS moved into contention on the outside, responded with good energy for the final Issue, wore the leaders down end drew into a long lead under mild urging. PANDORUS, forced to race on the outside, made up ground rapidly and closed stoutly. WASHINGTON CARRIE raced SIDNEY W. into submission, was punished during the stretch run and was stopping fast. AZIZ, in trouble early, finished strongly when clear. KENTUCKY LAD broke fast and was under urging throughout. SIDNEY W. weakened early. VOCALIAN, jumping faltlessly, kept close up with the leaders from the beginning, took command when the pacemakers fell and. rated along thereafter, withstood keen contention from PRIMED the last half mile and just lasted long enough. PRIMED trailed off the pace, gained stoutly when put to a drive, drew on almost equal terms with the winner and continued stubbornly. FACET kept well placed, made a bad landing at the third fence but recovered, and was steadied along until the last half mile, but could not gain thereafter. EVEN CHANCE weakened fast after making his effort going to the fourteenth fence. JOHN SOBIESKI pulled up lame. BILLYCOCK, permitted to settle in his stride while following the pace closely, saved ground when approaching the stretch turn, wore LIEUTENANT II. down and, under strong pressure, withstood the rush of VELLAS. The latter, within striking distance of the leaders, was allowed to drop back when rounding the far turn, came to the outside and, finishing with a rush, was overtaking the winner at every stride. ROCKSLIDE. interfered with in the early stages, was taken up when entering the hack stretch, went arouno the field and made a bold move when reaching the eighth post, but hung back when neaiing the end. LIEUTENANT II. set a good pace, drew clear when rounding the far turn, but weakened in the closing drive. HARVARD was used up in the first three-quarters. CONTEMPLATE, breaking fast and clear, raced close up to the leaders, then came with good speed when called on and finished in game fashion after taking the lead and had something in reserve at the end. CAMPANINI, a forward factor from the start, closed gamely. GRIER OF SPAIN, outrun early, finished with a belated rush on the outside. LADY MARIE lorced a fast early pace, shook off STE-PHANUS, but weakened in the last sixteenth. AUCILLA was racing strong when near the finish. STEPHANUS tired badly after a half mile. HUMANIST showed early speed and dropped back steadily after going three-eighths. Scratched— 30100-Vellas, 104. IBMROS, saved in close pursuit of the leaders, responded to pressure in the final drive and. closing gamely, displaced the leaders in the final sixteenth and began drawing away slowly. CHANNING L., a keen factor from the beginning, raced TOANNA into defeat to assume command, but tired in the final drive. GRENIER, prominent throughout, gained a slight lead at the final eighth post, but tired under his weight. FAIR CLASS, a slow beginner, raced well back in the early running. WILLINGDON, slow to get into his stride, improved his position on the outside, reached the leaders with good speed, but tired in the last eighth. FLAMINGO, taken up several times, was put to a hard drive, then secured racing room along the inner rail and finished best of all. MISS GAIETY II. raced evenly.
