Undefeated Republic Expected to Return to Races Saturday $ «, Saturday may witness the return to the races at Churchill Downs of Ktpublic, an undefeated colt which was absent from competition throughout 1928 and which is expected to be a factor in some of the stak:» at Washington Park and the other Illinois tracks if he is as sound as reports from Churchill Downs say he is. Republic started three times as a two-yearw old, winning all three races. He and the 1.* Mar Stock Farms good colt, Misstep, made their bows to racing at the same time and Republic defeated the colt which the following year was to finish second to Reign Count in the Kentucky Derby and win the Fairmount Derby. One of the three races Republic won was the Valley Stakes at Fair-mount Park. Republic is still owned by Tolk Laffoon, who bred him, and he is slated to be brought to Chicago by his trainer, J. J. Flannigan, but first, it is said, he is intended for a race at Churchill Downs. He is eligible for the Grainger Memorial and may go in this stake. He also is eligible for the Washington Park-Handicap, but may not be shipped here in time. Thursday morning he was on the Churchill Downs track for a move of three-quarters of a mile in 1 :15%. If he shows up well in his next start ne will probably go in the Robert M. Sweitzer Handicap at Washington Park. *
