GRAND NATIONAL CANDIDATE The Ace II., Now in England, Entered in Belmont Steeplechase — Was Here Two Years Ago. NEW YORK, N. Y.. May 28.— A new entry from abroad for the Grand National Steeplechase, which will be renewed at Belmont Park on Futurity Day, the last Saturday of the Westchester Racing Associations September meeting-, is Ralph Beaver Strassburgers The Ace, a seven-year-old son of Hollister and Foreshore. This nomination was received from Paris by Victor Schaumburg, clerk of the course at Belmont Park, by cable. The nomination of Royal Falcon came earlier in the week from Stephen Sanford, who is in London. The Grand National, which for two years has been the most richly endowed of American steeplechases of annual revival, is now a gallop of three miles. Jolly Roger has won its last two renewals. American nominations lo date are John R. Macombers four-year-olds Redbridge and Coronel. The Ace II. is not a stranger to Belmont Park steeplechasing. He was in this country two years ago and finished second under 150 pounds to Mrs. F. Ambrose Clarks Green Dragon, to which he was conceding fourteen pounds, in the Grand National Trial Purse, He beat the German jumper Laufjunge, which nad previously won the Beverwyck at Saratoga under the silks of George Herbert Walker, a member of the New York Racing Commission, also Marsin and The Sirdar II. For some reason, he did not start in the Grand National renewal that followed. He was a participant last spring in the Liverpool Grand National at Aintree, but had the bad luck to fall early. The Grand National will close on June 1, with the Brook and Broad Hollow, both handicaps. The Brook is a 0,000 added money gallop of two miles and a half for four-year-olds and up, and the Broad Hollow is a ,500 gallop of two miles for three-year-olds and upward. It will cost 0 to enter the Brook and 00 additional to start. The nomination fee in the Broad Hollow will be 5, the starting fee 00. The Brook, last Septembers revival of which was won by Lorenzo with Jolly Roger second and Erne II. third, should pay its winner about 2,000. Lorenzos share of last years purse was 1,850. The Broad Hollow of last September paid Nomad, which beat Pink Star and Lorenzo, ,275. There will be 5,000 added money in the Grand National, of which the Westchester Racing Association will contribute 5,000 and a group of sportsmen interested in steeple-chasing 0,000. There will be ,000 for the second horse, ,500 for the third and ,500 for the fourth, also some plate for the winner. The nomination fee will be 0, with an additional charge of 0 for horses not declared by July 15. The starting fee will be 00. The weights, based on the National Steeplechase and Hunts Associations scale, will be fixed by penalties and allowances. Winners of ,500 or five races in 1928 and 1929 must shoulder three pounds extra ; of ,000, six pounds; of 0,000, or three races of ,000 each in 1929, ten pounds. Non-winners of ,500 in 1928 and 1929, if non-winners cf three races in 1929, will be allowed five pounds, and if non-winners of ,500 or two races in 192S and 1929, ten pounds.
