EASY VICTORY FOR JUSTINA • Finishes Fonr Lengths in Advance of Mr. Dick. • Juveniles Hold Center of Stage at Fairmonnt Park — Mrs. Snyder Graduates la Fourth Race. ♦ COLLINSVILLE, 111.. June 26.— Two-year-olds were called upon to furnish the principal race at Fairmount Park this afternoon and a promising band of juveniles started in the Wood River Purse, over five and a half furlongs. It was an allowance affair, attracting seven starters. J. W. Marchbank accounted for the purse when the filly Justina, well ridden by A. Pendergrass, raced her way to an easy victory, vanquishing the Oakland Farms Mr. Dick, the Paradise Stock Farms Vicksburg and four other starters. Justina moved into the lead from a good start and, proving much the best, immediately opened up a long lead on her rivals, racing far ahead most of the way, being four lengths in front of Mr. Dick at the finish, winning as her rider pleased. Mr. Dick worked his way up in the stretch after being outpaced to that stage and got up for second place. Vicksburg. which was in trouble on the inside, finally managed to outrun the others for third place. Justina attracted much the most support and went to the post a big favorite, scoring a popular victory. Racing was conducted under ideal conditions with delightful weather and a fast track, and an exceedingly good week day crowd turned out. Sport Dress, favored by a light impost in the fifth race, was returned winner over a good band of route runners, and the filly which now races for Reichert Bros, took the measure of Spanish Aster, Isoard and five others to account for her third straight victory. Ridden by C. Turk. Sport Dress was a factor on the outside in the early stages and, after taking the lead from Lounger at the half mile post, proceeded to show the most speed for the remainder of the distance, always keeping safe and outfinishing Spanish Aster. Spanish Aster was the favorite and ran a good race, being ridden up to the leaders on the inside near the far turn and, reaching Sport Dress, challenged repeatedly for the lead, but was held safe and was not good enough to overtake the winner at the end. At equal weights Spanish Aster would have won. Isoard managed to get up in the late stages to outfinish Wrench for third place. A first-time starter from the P. T. Chinn stable accounted for the five and a half furlongs race for maiden two-year-old fillies, which was the first race decided. It was Western Princess, a daughter of Westy Hogan — Fo Hi, which was ridden by jockey V. Wal-lis. Western Princess, on the first appearance of her career, raced in her best form and at the end was only cantering to land Continued on twentieth page. EASY VICTORY FOR JUSTINA Continued from first page. In advance of Pink Blossom by five lengths. Pink Blossom was the early leader, setting the race to the stretch turn, where she was unable to cope with the winner, relinquishing command but holding on fairly well in te final drive to outstay Violin. Violin, a tardy beginner, gained gradually and closed an immense gap to get into third place in the last seventy yards. Alma Vita, a well backed one. was never a factor. After bringing in the first winner jockey V. Wallis came back in the second race and scored another victory with G. W. Ogles four-year-old Governor Seth, which gained a well earned victory over a large band of mediocre sprinters, including Lucky Drift, Fortunate Mann and nine others. Governor Seth was outrun to the stretch turn, but, coming on the ouU-ide ganjely under strong riding, rapidly raced past the tiring horses in resolute fashion and outfinished Lucky Drill by a half length in the last few yards. Lucky Drift followed the early leader. Charming Lady, closely to the stretch, forcing the pace, and then rscsl into the had, but tired gradually near the end and was unable to withstand the winner. Fortunate Mann came from far back and by saving ground in the final eighth wore down and gamely outfinished Sunsweeper for third place. Governor Seth stul Fortunate Mann were equal favorites. The riding of jockey V. Wallis continued to feature the sport here this afternoon, when, after riding the winners of the first two ra.es, he made it a three in a row lor himself and his followers when he piloted the four-year-old maiden racer Mrs. Snyder to victory, accounting for the purse in the third race. Mrs. Snyder finally graduated into the winning class and furnished an immense surprise by defeating Vindication, Big Stick and eiht other starters, including the favorite. Half Pint. Long odds were returned the backers of the winner, which was one ot the field horses, racing grouped with Rosette. Half Pint was always badly outrun, racing far bark and failed to respond to his riders urging ai any stage. Mis. Snyder was a f.i.tor to the stretch turn, close in pursuit of the leader, .Moment. us and then, when in the stretch, came fast into the lead and withstood challenges from Bfcf, Stick, keeping the latter safe and then outstayed the fast finishing Vindication in the final strkska,
