VERA C. FINALLY DEFEATED Finishes Second to Pan in River .Ridge Riding Purse at Beulah Park. COLUMBUS, Ohio. April 29. Vera C.s winning streak, which ran to three straight, counting her last race at Wheeling, was broken at Beulah Park this afternoon when Pan, a gelding running for L. Clous, defeated her in the fifth race. Vera C. ran a good race, however, and was second, beating out Lucky Play and. a number of others. The event was the River Ridge Riding and Polo Club Purse. Big Bill Thompson, beaten by a narrow margin in his first race after coming from the Agua Caliente track, made good in todays fourth. He was able to pick his spot next to the rail and soon had a lead, which he held against the fast finish of Mabel Selh. Spring Bud got up to beat Kin Folks for third place. The first race went to a long shot, Bellar-ion, owned by Mrs. J. Dillon. Mutuel tickets paid 8.80. Bellarion was in a half-length ahead of Not Guilty, an equal choice with Agitation, which was unplaced. Highbridge was third. Bellarion, fortunate to get through, went to a good lead, but was fully extended to beat out the fast-finishing Not Guilty. Favorite players were more successful when Asgo won the second race. This colt justified the betting support that was given him, leading all through the stretch to finish a length and a half better than Eveline F. Marie Stevens was third.
