NEVERMORE began slowly, missed the crowding when approaching the turn and, working his way up fast after reaching the final five-sixteenths, took command and won diawing away. CAPTAIN J. S. began in close quarters, was impeded repeatedly, appeared to strike the inner rail on the turn and moved up encouragingly entering the stretch, but tired in the final eighth. BBUNO bcgin ast, had fine speed, but tired badly. PARTICIPATE, in close quarters, ran a good race. LADY WITT quit. ANNA BEALL had early speed. I.EROS lost ground while reaching the front, opened up a big lead and saved ground, but tired in the last sixteenth. GOOD JBST ran an even race. SUDDEN had no mishaps. BLACK FLYER, racing-in his best form, was forced to lose some ground, kept close up from the start and, working his way into the lead, outstayed SCOTLAND. The latter improved his position fast after reaching the last five-sixteenths, lost ground on the stretch turn and, racing wide thereafter, finished gamely and just failed to get up. HELEN DEAN, badly outrun for half a mile, finished with a rush. RAY BLADES, under restraint and close up for half a mile, tired when put to a drive. FIDDLER raced prominently under energetic tactics and disposd of IIIEOVEK, ALAIN RANSHAAV and BItOAl MKADOWS and held on resolutely. IIIEOVEK raced well to tho stretch, where he tired. CKASII, rated along in closest pursuit of the leader, responded gamely after going to the outside of BOGAN in the stretch and, holding him safe entering the final eighth, held the advantage thereafter. 150GAN, quickly taken into the lead, made a fast pace under good riding and held on stubbornly after being headed. LINCOLN PLAUT saved ground on the stretch turn, moved up in the stretch and swerved behind the leaders near the end. SOUIt MASH raced wide under a poor ride and closed fast.
