GIGANTIC VICTORIOUS T .Son of Trojan Wins Pimlico Home-Bred Stakes. J. j. Admiral C. T. Graysons Up Finishes Second Her Grace in Fourth Straight Victory. Iu a a BALTIMORE. Md., April 29. The Pimlico tt Home-Bred Stakes for two-year-olds headed ni the list of attractions at the old hilltop w by course this afternoon. It was the eighth f spring renewal of this fixture and it produced probably the most exciting and closely b, contested race in its history. From the c quarter post to the finish of the four and a half furlongs, never more than a head j." margin separated J. E. Davis Gigantic tl and Admiral Cary T. Graysns Up, the favorite. Gigantic held the lead at the quarter post by the head margin and at the finish he was still leading and by the G. same margin. The two colts raced like a team and it G G. was a two-horse race exclusively. The Ran-cocas Stables Parr finished with a rush x to be third, passing Uncle Sam in the stretch and leading the latter home by a length. c A large crowd turned out to witness the juvenile fixture and the other good races scheduled. The net value of the Home-Bred u Stakes to the winner was ,630. Eddie Ambrose was astride the Davis colt in his G winning race. Ral Parrs consistent racer Her Grace c scored over a band of three-year-old fillies in the Woodberry Purse at Pimlico this after- o noon when she defeated the Brancastle Farms St. Prisca by a nose in a hard stretch drive, in which the two fought it out all e E. through the final furlong. Her Graces victory was an impressive one. At the sixteenth E E. post, where she was fighting it out with St. Prisca and Poinciana, the latter swerved over and, colliding with Her Grace, knocked r the latter off her stride. Her Grace quickly recovered and, in the final drive, just lasted long enough to win. $ rorsciANA tires badly. c Poinciana started out like a winner. Racing to the front soon after the start, she led Her Grace by half a length at the half l mile post. On the far turn she increased her advantage to two lengths and a half. 1 At this stage it looked as if the others T. would never be able to get to her. Straightened out for the final run both Her Grace i and St. Prisca moved up, the latter on the outside. At the furlong post Poinciana still J led by a head, while Her Grace was a neck in front of St. Prisca. All were under pun- ishment. At the end Poinciana tired badly and was beaten two lengths and a half for second place. g Todays victory was the fourth straight for Her Grace, the last three coming in Maryland this spring. She is a candidate for the -Preakness Stakes. Samuel Ross home-bred Happy Scot came back with another winning effort when he beat Mrs Walter M. Jeffords All Hail by a i length in the Hampden Purse. This race, which was scheduled as the third, brought a field of twelve to the barrier. Happy" Scot and Trapland were coupled as the Ross entry . and went to the post as the shortest priced i favorite starting on any of the Maryland 1 tracks this spring. The odds were 2 to 5. J. 1 Eaby had the mount on Happy Scot. Several ! of the lot were first time starters and were a bit fractious at the post. "When the start " finally came Walls was away in front with : Blind Lane. i Happy Scot began fifth, but Eaby sent him up to Blind Lane in the run to the half mile . post, where they were racing heads apart. On 1 the far turn Happy Scot began drawing away and making the turn into the home stretch i he had a load of four lengths. Eaby very foolishly began taking matters easy, with the result that Happy Scot slowed down. Ambrose was riding a powerful finish on All Hail and the latter was responding gamely. At the end Happy Scot had a margin of one length. All Hail finished eighth lengths in front of the Whitney colt Totem. There was a well circulated "tip" on Green Light, a good looking black filly, from the Sagamore Stable, which was making her first start. Green Light, a bit green at the barrier, began slowly and galloped well back. She was evidently out for education this afternoon and if all of the nice things said of her are true, she is a fair sort of filly. TIMON ALL THE WAT. A dozen good looking maiden three-year-olds went to the post in the opening race. A majority of them were making their first start of the year. It was a race over six furlongs and Willis Sharpe Kilmers Sun Falcon was favorite. The Brookmeade Stable furnished the winner in Timon, a chestnut gelding by Pandion Wee Dear. Ridden by Steve ODonnell and setting the pace, Timon held command throughout. In the stretch he was forced to withstand a determined challenge from the Glen Riddle Farms Yankee Doodle, a good looking son of Runnymede Guess Work. McCoy rode Yankee Doodle in a confident manner and it may be that he overrated the Glen Riddle youngster. He waited until turning into the homestretch before making his move and Yankee Doodle moved up fast and at the furlong post was on almost even terms with Timon. When the final drive came he tired at the finish and Timon, drawing away again, won by a length. Eight lengths further back was the favorite Sun Falcon which beat King Kelly by a length. Angry began very slowly. The Linsfead Steeplechase, one of the annual features at the Maryland Jockey Club spring meetings, which, was provided as one of the attractions at Pimlico this afternoon, brought one of the largest fields to the post that ever started at this famous old racing grounds. Seventeen of the eighteen eligibles carried silks and they were a good looking band of jumpers. The Dorwood Stable sent to the post Dangerous and Stalker. The latter was ridden by Pat Donohue. Neither of the pair finished. The race furnished a good contest and the finish found John Bosley, .Tr.s Raspberry first home when he beat J. P. McGoverns My Care by three lengths. Mrs. F. Ambrose Clarks Brown Stout was third, two lengths farther back, and then followed the Eastland Farms Poplar Creek, another head back. Four of the lot, Stalker, Dangerous, Friend Frank and Flavius, failed to finish the course. Friend Frank set the pace for the first quarter, and then Brown Stout went to the front and, drawing away into a commanding lead, led to the last fence, where he made a bad landing and Sims had to pull him up. Raspberry, which was gaining at the time, then took command and led for the remainder of the race.
