STALL ROOM AT A PREMIUM All Available Space at Thomcliffe Park Course Reserved — Meeting Opens Next Wednesday. TORONTO, Ont., May 11.— It is definitely assured that every available stall at Thomcliffe Park will have an equine occupant by the time the spring meeting opens Wednesday and, incidentally, inaugurates the Canadian racing season of 1931. Superintendent McArthur is at his wits end to find room for those yet to arrive from Maryland and other points. Even the stables on the old Davies property, at the foot of the hill, have been pressed into service. This means there will be over six hundred horses at Leaside, and there will be as many, and probably more, horses at Woodbine Park, where track superintendent Harland announces he has allotted a few more stalls than he actually has on the grounds. There will be a grand rush of stables from Maryland after the close of Pimlico Saturday, and some will undoubtedly get away before the closing to avoid the rush. Among the larger establishments expected from that point and New York, with the number of horses in each case, are the following: J. Boden, 15; H. G. Bedwell, 23; W. L. Brodie, 8; J. Dreyer, 4; Jim Arthur, 6; Jack Whyte, 15; A. G. Weston, 4; Bill Irvine, 12; Frank Kearns, 9; B. E. Chapman, 5; Preston Burch, 15; these will be taken care of at Woodbine Park; W. Garth, Sr., 15; A. Wood-liffe, 10, and several others. Tom Glassco intends sending down a few horses from Windsor. Richard Pending, who has in the past always been represented by a formidable stable, has only asked for one stall this time. Maybe it will be for Ima Queen, one of the sensations of the last Canadian season. G. L. Stryker is coming up, but will probably take his horses to Woodbine Park. The Queen City Stables jumpers Bally Weaver and The Red Knight are en route to Toronto. J. C. Fletcher has asked for five stalls at Leaside. He already has thirteen head at Woodbine. The Thorncliffe Stables big string will be moved from the latter course to Leaside within the next few days, and will make their headquarters there during the first two weeks of racing. Following is the list of officials for the Thorncliffe Park meeting: President and general manager, W. R. Woolat; stewards, Francis Nelson, D. S. Gillis and W. A. Hewitt; stewards, representing Canadian racing associations, Francis Nelson and D. S. Gillis; judges, J. P. Turner, M. N. Mac-Farland and Edwin Allan; starter, representing Canadian racing associations, Marshall Cassidy; racing secretary, M. N. MacFarlan; clerk of scales, representing Canadian rac- ing associations, Edwin Whyte; clerk of course, F. S. Livingston; paddock judge, W. G. Kelly; patrol judge, J. P. Fitzgerald; timer, representing Canadian racing associations, D. S. Boyle; secretary-treasurer, F. S, Livingston.
