GO STEP IN TRIUMPH « Jubilee Parade Purse Heads Auroras Ladies Day Card. ♦ Track at Exposition Park Covered With Water — My Sweets Defeats Good Band in Second. • AURORA. 111., May 11.— Gold Step, disqualified for foul in his last appearance, romped to victory this afternoon in the Jubilee Parade Purse, best race on the Ladies Day program at Exposition Park. Ridden in hustling fashion by jockey A. Pendergrass, he led most of the way and held Watch On safe at the end. Bud Broom was a distant third. The five horses entered began in line and when they were straightened out Gold Step went to the front, with Watch On and Bud Broom close up. On the far turn it developed into a two-horse race and, as Bud Broom fell back, Gold Step and Watch On opened up a lead of many lengths. Gold Step was leading by a good margin at mid-stretch, but Watch On made a gallant effort and Pendergrass resorted to the whip in the last sixteenth to keep his mount in front. Gold Step was an odds-on choice, paying .54. WATER SOAKED TRACK. Disagreeable weather again prevailed and the track was in poor condition. It was covered with water and the footing beneath was soft. The crowd, however, was of good proportions. A four-year-old gelding. Take Off, proved a mud runner of considerable ability when he made a show of the large band opposed to him in the first race. He led by a wide margin for every stride of the journey and when the race was finished had an advantage of almost three lengths over Hogans Dance, the favorite. Saddle Skirts, second choice in the betting, got third money. All horses and riders with the exception of the winner were covered with mud at the conclusion of the contest. Jockey Redding rode the winner, which was fairly well backed. My Sweets, the favorite, lived up to expectations in the second race. She won by five lengths from another large field after setting her own pace. Tryor finished second and Pere Noel was third. The result was never in doubt. My Sweets being several lengths in front all the way. R. K. Girl, on which a late play developed, lost whatever chance she may have had when her saddle slipped on the far turn. Andy Fischer was the winning jockey. TRANSCENDENT SCORES. Eight two-year-olds raced four and one-half furlongs in the third race, and the honors went to Transcendent, an outsider. The filly, which races for J. J. Greely. was favored by an inside post position, and beginning quickly was never headed, although Adelaide N. gave her a battle in the early stages, and Abstain, which finished second, was gaining fast at the end. Adelaide N. saved third place from the game Watauga. Jockey R. Heigle rode the winner. Another favorite scored when Old Bill, with apprentice Dickey in the saddle, made a show of his opponents in the fifth race. Although pressed by Jack Alexander in the first quarter, he drew away from the latter in the back stretch and was never bothered to any extent thereafter. Jack Alexander retained second place, and True Boy, coming from far back, was third. They were racing one and one-sixteenth miles and eight started. The start was held up several minutes due to the bad actions of Thrace, which was started from outside the stall gate.
