TWENTY GRAND SOLILOQUIZING AFTER BELMONT VICTORY No, no, twas no exercise canter; "Jimmy" sure made it hot for a mile, But Charlie, and I felt certain, Hed come back to us after a while, I wish there were more like Charlie, That know how to sit still and wait, Others are climbing, all over us, Soon as were off from the gate, Yes, its the same with us runners, As it is with people like you, We have our problems to tackle, And a lot of "quick thinkin " to do, Yes. your high pressure salesman Will tell you its action that wins, This high pressure stuff on us "hosses," Accounts for a lot of our sins. Sure, it takes lots of experience That we our best form can show, But Ive had darned good trainers, In my old friends Murphy and Rowe, Oh, its fine to be working for people Who are with you body and soul, And know they always are rooting When youre striving to capture a goal, Well, I guess Im going out to Chicago, In that Arlington Classic to run, And I hope my daddy St. Germans, Will have cause to be proud of his son. Oh. yes, and Im hoping and praying That next year 111 be "over seas," That Ascot Gold Cup from the British, I feel I can take it with ease. Kildare.
