S AT SUNRISE CONSISTENT ♦ Schorr Filly Earns Third Purse at Washington Park. * Archibald Barklies Wayne Graduates in First Appearance — Oscillation Also First Time Winner. ♦ HOMEWOOD, 111., June 19.— The consistent filly, At Sunrise, which races in the gold dotted cerise colors of John F. Schorr, accounted for her third purse of the meeting and her fourth in six starts when she was easily best of a band of eight good youngsters which raced in the Egret Purse, an allowance race for juvenile fillies, which came third on todays Washington Park program, and was the feature of the card. Forced to be taken back when she met with interference on the far turn, she came to the outside of Uma in the stretch to take command and win with comparative ease. Princess Ivre, one of the Leiter entry, raced to second place, while Triassic, the extreme outsider, was third. Uma, winner of the Debutante Stakes, showed good speed in leaving the barrier, and set the early pace, while McCoy, on At Sunrise, was blocked trying to get through on the inside. After being shuffled back slightly At Sunrise was taken to the outside of the Cebrian miss, and, catching her again in the stretch, drew away to an easy victory. Princess Ivre, although a game going second, did not menace the winner, while Triassic got up in time to nose out the tiring Uma. At Sunrise was a well-backed favorite and paid less than even money. HEAT OPPRESSIVE. The heat was oppressive this afternoon, and the lightest of summer attire was none too cool. The majority of the good sized crowd in attendance sought the shade of the spacious stands during the afternoon and braved the glaring rays of the sun only at intervals. The track was very fast and caused many to predict that the track mark for one and one-quarter miles would be lowered in the American Derby tomorrow. The gathering today was swelled by many out-of-town sport lovers on hand for the running of Washington Parks feature race. Oscillation, a first-time starter, with the veteran rider Charlie Borel in the saddle, was a surprise winner of the opener. Almost entirely overlooked, the daughter of Blondin— Tea Time, gained gradually in the early racing to catch Newgro, a field horse, which set the pace, and won by one length. Delven, one of the favorites, finished third. The race was for maiden two-year-olds, and several horses including Clasbys Choice and Prince Sweep, were practically eliminated through interference. WAYNE MAKES GOOD. Another thoroughbred making his first appearance under colors was successful in the second race. This was Wayne, owned by Archibald Barklie and racing coupled with Duchess Wrack as the Barklie-Keyser entry. The gelding, a four-year-old son of Golden Broom— Miss Belle, showed speed in remaining close up from the start and game-ness in outfinishing Fairy Ring, which set most of the pace. Annapolitan, the favorite-finished third in the twelve-horse field. Jockey J. Smith was astride the winner. Panchio, winner of his last start at this track, was entirely overlooked by the public in todays fourth race and proved a repeater when he came from far back with a cyclonic stretch rush to overtake his opponents and win going away. On the strength of a fast race last season, and good recent works, Abdel, which had not faced the barrier in almost eight months, was installed odds-on favorite. He failed to finish in the money, Tombereau being second and Portmanteau third. Abdel. hailed as a fast beginner, was shuffled back at the start, and Tombereau set the pace, only to tire in the last sixteenth. Panchio, which was ridden by jockey R. Jones, paid 2.12. Canfli, a former stablemate of Panchio, which showed such a good effort in the previous race, came through with a victory in the fifth, when she won by one length from the maiden racer Tred Avon, while Outburst, the favorite, was third.
