THE PORTER IN NEW HOME Mrs. John Hay Whitneys Recent Acquisition Arrives at Greentree Farm — McLean Sale Success. LEXINGTON, Ky., June 19.— The Porter, purchased Monday by Mrs. J. H. Whitney, at the dispersal sale of Edward B. McLean3 Plantation Stud at Leesburg, Va., for 7,000, arrived here this afternoon. In the car with him were Bosphorous and her bay colt foal by The Porter, purchased for ,000. Dream of Allah, bought for ,000, On Guard, for which ,800 was paid, and the yearling bay filly by Messenger — On Guard, purchased for ,200. They were all taken immediately to Greentree Farm. Messrs. A. B. Hancock, J. N. Camden, J. F. Patterson, W. T. Wilmere, T. B. Cromwell, who attended the dispersal sale of the McLean horses, and auctioneer John W. Bain, who cried the sale, returned to Lexington this morning. They are all agreed that it was one of the best sales held in this country in years. It was stated immediately after the sale by one who was in a position to know, that Mr. McLean would have been willing to take 25,000 for the horses prior to the sale. They brought 17,-800. Thomas Piatt stated today that after General Thatcher had been loaded in the car that was sent out yesterday for George Wingfields Nevada Stock Farm at Reno, it was decided not to ship him. He was taken out and another mare was put in, making twelve mares and five yearlings in the shipment. J. O. Keene left Thursday morning for Bainbridge Park. He will be at Cleveland until about July 1. He has a crew of men under George Horine finishing the mile and a sixteenth training track at Keeneland Stud. He is arranging to sell his yearlings at Saratoga Springs at the Fasig-Tipton Company paddocks in August.
