LILLY IN CHARGE AT BOWIE Assistant Greentree Stable Trainer to Campaign Maryland String.. - General Manager Boyle of Old Line State Track Reports Whitney Barn Ready for Occupancy. BOWIE, Md., Feb. 20. Due to head trainer Bill Brennan being busy at the farm at Red Bank, N. J., assistant trainer Marshall Lilly will have charge of the Greentree Stables thoroughbreds which will be campaigned here this spring. That was the news sent out today by John M. Gaver, agent of the Greentree Stable. The horses Lilly will bring here wont be known for another week, as trainer Bill Brennan is busy testing his two-year-olds. However, race fans can rest assured that whatever Lilly brings here will be dead fit and capable of holding their own in any company. It is expected that the horses which Vincent Powers has been racing at Hialeah Park, Florida, will be shipped here to join the band which is coming down from Red Bank, N. J. General manager Joseph B. Boyle of the Southern Maryland Agricultural Association, reports that the massive new barn erected during the winter for the Greentree horses is completed. The barn, which stands on the ground formerly used for the seven-eighths mile chute, is the last word in modernism. It stands out like a light house, but it is only one of the many new barns planned here this year. a The automobile roads leading here from both Baltimore and Washington have been greatly improved over the winter and motorists will be able to save considerable time in their trips to and from the course. Track superintendent Dick Pending is busy preparing his plant and when he has his plans completed this course, which is situated half way between Washington and Baltimore, will be among the finest in America. The track, according to horsemen who have been working their charges over it, is almost ready. This has been due to the exceedingly mild weather encountered this winter. There are more than 100 horses already on the grounds. The big stables are due around March 1, at which time every barn will be in perfect condition. Horsemen who have been tardy in applying for stalls should write track superintendent Dick Pending at once.
