One hundred and fifteen three-year-olds were nominated for the fifty-eighth running of the famous Kentucky Derby. The list of entries is headed by C. V. Whitneys unbeaten filly, Top Flight, and with few exceptions all the best juveniles of last year are among those named for the 0,000 added prize, which will be run at Churchill Downs on Saturday, May 7. Mrs. Payne Whitneys Greentree Stable, winner of last years Derby with Twenty Grand, led in the number nominated for the 1932 race with six representatives. E. R. Bradley entered five; William Woodward, whose Belair Stud Stable captured the 1930 Kentucky Derby with Gallant Fox. named four, as did W. T. Waggoner and Sons Three Ds Stock Farm Stable. C. V. Whitney, Mrs. Isabelle D. Sloanes Brookmeade Stable and Mrs. John Hay Whitney entered three each. Other well-known racing establishments represented are those of Herbert M. Woolf, Mrs. L. Viau, M. L. Schwartz, H. W. Sage, Lee Rosenberg, Stuyvesant Peabody, Joseph Leiter, S. W. Labrot, Howe Stable, Hal Price Headley, A. B. Hancock, Mrs. Graham Fair Vanderbilt, Victor Emanuel, Charles T. Fisher, John J. Coughlin and Norman W. Church. The prize entry of the entire 115 nominations is the great filly, Top Flight, best two-year-old and largest money winner of all ages during the racing season of 1931. Although only one filly has won Kentuckys most coveted race, namely the comely Regret, a Whitney-bred and owned thoroughbred, there are many good judges who will not be surprised to see Top Flight duplicate Regrets performance. The daughter of Dis Done Playatit is well qualified to be pitted against not only the best of her sex but "the best of her age. Top Flight was unbeaten in seven starts as" a two-year-old and won 19,000. Her stake successes included glorious victories in the historical Futurity at Belmont Park, the Maryland Jockey Clubs Pimlico Futurity, Lassie Stakes at Arlington Park, Chicago; Clover Stakes at Aqueduct; Matron Stakes at Belmont Park, and the Saratoga Special and Spinaway Stakes at Saratoga. She was the leading money-winning horse of 1931 and is the first two-year-old in American turf history to pass the 00,000 mark in earnings. She likewise became the largest money-winning mare in the world. Her great record entitles the filly to serious consideration for Derby honors even despite the fact that only one of her sex ever carried off the blue riband of the turf. Based strictly on their performances as Continued on twevt?-first page.
