METROPOLITAN WORKOUTS NEW YORK, N. Y., May 18.— Equipoise, the Whitney champion, had a trial for his engagement in the Metropolitan Handicap at Belmont Park this morning. Fred Hopkins permitted the son of Pennant and Swinging to breeze along for a mile in 1:41. Laughing Queen galloped a handy mile in 1:43% and Ironclad showed a mile in 1:42%, while Epithet seemed to have all his speed when his trial was a mile in 1:41%. At this time there appears to be an excellent chance for a field of a dozen going to the post Saturday. -— *
