PANA FRANKA sprinted to the front soon after the start and opened a good lead, but had to be hard ridden in the last sixteenth to hold VENETIAN GIRL safe. The latter was inclined to swerve when put to a drive, but staged a strong finish and would have won in a few more strides. EPONA went well and was going gamely at the finish. DUSKY DAME weakened in the run home. PARADE REST tired. PETALAROS lost her rider rounding the far turn while running in last place. SANTA SOPHIA came to the outside of the field at the stretch turn and, racing strongly in the run home, bested SHONNA in the final drive. SHONNA began slowly, but made up ground steadily to take a short lead in the stretch, only to falter in the final drive. LOOK AT LILLIAN was also off slowly and closed a gap to finish fast. RAYMOND DALE suffered some interference and ran a good race. BLUE PENCIL was in close quarters around the far turn, then saved ground in the stretch, but met with some interference near the finish and tired. PELLEGRINO weakened in the run home. YALOVIAN and BAYAMO dropped back when the real racing began. SHASTA BROOM, showing improvement, came to the outside of the field at the stretch turn to finish fast and under urging. ANDORA, slow to get going, met with some early interference, but was racing fast at the finish. AGNES SOREL closed gamely to catch BAY ROSE in the last stride. BAY ROSE broke quickly and, after racing ROMANY BAW into defeat, took a good lead in the last eighth, but tired badly near the end. BETH HOGAN and DECEPTIVE quit in the stretch. BLUE DAY was in tight quarters in the early running, but saved ground in the last quarter and finished fast. OUTER HARBOR was also going gamely at the end. HIS LAST got up in time to best HOT SHOT. SIR DEAN was in close quarters after leaving the back stretch and again at midstretch and did not threaten in the final drive. WATER PORT raced evenly. DRUGGIST lacked his usual closing dash. The latter moved up steadily on the back stretch and challenged in determined fashion in the final eighth, but could not get up. TIGER FLOWERS raced well up throughout. CHIP made up ground in the stretch, but did not threaten the leaders. ED LARK went fairly well. JACK BERRY was tiring at the finish. The latter met with some interference, but finished fastest of all on the outside. BEAUTY BRIDE opened up a long lead in the early running, but weakened near the end. THE SHOW OFF was in close quarters after going half the distance. CURTSEY tired. BAGIEL lacked the speed to keep up and, pocketed on the far turn, was never dangerous thereafter. LADY BIENVILLE raced wide on the first turn and trailed the field thereafter.
