JOSEPH A. MURPHY IN CHICAGO Speaks in Glowing Terms of Success i at Tanforan — Believes Polydorus c Will Be Future Star. , i 1 Joseph A. Murphy is back at his desk at the Hawthorne office, having arrived from I San Francisco yesterday morning. He re- j ported that conditions in Northern Cali- i I fornia were improving daily and that the ! ! | meeting at Tanforan was a success. In speaking of the racing, he said: "Poly-I . dorous is a nice horse at the present time, • and will be in the way of the best of those racing at Washington Park. In fact Harry Unna is bringing one of the best balanced strings that will race in Chicago this summer. Yonkel might be one of the three-year-olds of the year. A maiden when he reached Tanforan, he showed such class that there is no doubt that he is of Derby caliber. One thing about him no distance | is too great and a mile and a half would 1 suit him better, probably, than a mile and 1 a quarter. "The two-year-olds were not a particularly impressive lot. Xingu pronounced Shengo in the stable of J. W. Marchbank was probably the best. She is on the small order, but game as a pebble and might develop into a nice filly." Regarding the future of racing in California, judge Murphy said that he preferred ■ not to discuss the matter except to say that l a bill, approved by the racing association and all of the breeders of California, has been drawn and is in the hands of the printer. It will be submitted on an initiative to 1 the people of California in the November r election. Judge Murphy will remain in the city until " Saturday, when he will go to St. Louis s for a few days and then to Belmont Park in 1 the interest of the Hawthorne stakes which 1 close in July. *
