ULUNIU TRIUMPHS ONCE AGADf Shows Decided Liking for Footing at Long Branch Course. Chilly Weather Fails to Affect Attendance-; Froth Blower Finishes Third to to Young Kitty. TORONTO, Ont., June 13 A claiming handicap over one mile and seventy yards with the starters entered with a claiming, price of ,000, was the feature offering on todays program at Long Branch. Only six started in the main event. Mr. Hay Pollard furnished the winner in Uluniu, which showed his liking for the going by defeating; Sister Zoe, from the stable of H. C. Murnan by a length with the Geneseo Stables Rubio in third place, another length and a half further back. Banderlog was fourth and Omareen headed the only other starter, Louis Merryman. There was a delay of five minutes at the post caused by the unruly post manners of Omareen and Banderlog. The start was a good one with Omareen beating the others away and outrunning his opponents to the first turn. Arnold rushed Rubio up to the leader, but lost ground on the first turn. Uluniu was close up, while Sister Zoe was slower to settle into her stride. As the field entered the back stretch it was Omareen and Rubio that fought it out for the lead. Arnold soon took a good lead with Rubio and set the pace to the stretch. Omareen had tired from the chase and dropped back. It was then that Uluniu, moving up on the outside, went to the front. Sister Zoe began to improve her position and soon wore down the tiring Rubio and set sail for the leader. Uluniu was holding on in determined fashion and was well clear of Sister Zoe as the finish line was reached. Rubio, though tiring, easily accounted for third by a couple of lengths. A chill wind swept across the track, but despite the weather another crowd of good proportions witnessed the sport. The public received a setback in the Chatham Purse when Froth Blower, backed to the exclusion of all others, was forced to bow in defeat before Young Kitty and Easter Hatter. This was a six furlongs race and was exclusively for home-breds. Circulet and Young Kitty were quickest in stride and set the pace, while Froth, Blower was permitted to settle in his stride and Mann had let him drop back to fifth place, heading only Bronze, which was in, the rear. On the turn Circulet was still in front, and Young Kitty was second. Mann was sitting still on Froth Blower and it appeared that he would have to start moving up if he was to be a factor. It was not until the final quarter mile that Mann went to work on Froth Blower, but he was too far out of the, running to catch the first two, though tak- ing two strides to the winners one at the finish. It appeared that Mann had made a mistake in delaying his move so long, Circulet had dropped back upon reaching the stretch and it was Easter Hatter that moved into second place. An even dozen platers started in the third over the one mile and a sixteenth distance. Boscobel took first honors here in handy fashion from On Leave, with Shiva getting up in the final strides for third. Plain Ben was permitted to set the pace, while Mozer had Boscobel in near attendance under a steady hold. While only two furlongs to be traversed Boscobel took command, opened up a safe lead and was not seriously endangered by the closing challenge of On Leave. The latter showed a remarkable effort after being shuffled back in the run to the first turn, threated his way through the others and finished fastest of all. Shiva was under restraint early made a determined effort under pressure but was no match for the leading pair.
