LEADING AMERICAN JOCKEYS Silvio Coucci, who a few weeks ago was far down in the list of leading American jockeys, reached the top by riding eight winners last week, climaxing a steady climb, which has excited the admiration of racing fans throughout the country. He held a margin of only one winning mount over J. Gilbert, who began a new spurt two weeks ago, Couccis total reaching 145 and Gilberts 144. H. Mills, who had been in front for some time; dropped to third place, with a total of 142. G. Elston rode four winners last week and is a good fourth. Mills percentage remains the highest of any of the leaders, but Couccis average of .20 is remarkable in view of the fact that he has had many more mounts than any of the other leaders, having ridden 728 all told.
