AROUSE IS SURPRISE WINNER Leads Throughout to Defeat Aure-bon and Choice, Miss Kathryn. Shasta Lad, Liking Track Conditions, Scores Another Popular Victory at Dade . Park Pink Slipper Scores. HENDERSON, Ky., Aug. 29 Although mid-summer weather prevailed, a large Monday crowd was present at Dade Park this afternoon to usher in the third week of the long summer meeting. After the favorites had been successful in the opening two events, .the third, which engaged a field of six of the better grade two-year-olds, was productive of an upset, when J. J. Flani-gans Arouse garnered his second consecu tive victory of the meeting by defeating Aurebon and Miss Kathryn, the favorite, the latter heading Chuck B., which came in for heavy support. After a delay at the webbing, Arouse broke ahead of his field and, drawing away from Miss Kathryn with ease, he maintained his advantage to the end. Unable to keep up with the victor, Miss Kathryn was hard put to outstay Chuck B. for third. After establishing a good lead, which he held as the field turned into the stretch, Morrison was forced to keep at Arouse and he led Aurebon by nearly two lengths at the end, going in handy fashion. Breaking from the inside position, Chuck B. was forced to race in the deepest part of the track throughout and when he found firmer footing in the run through the stretch, was unable to menace the leaders! The favorite,. Pink Slipper, left the two-year-old maiden ranks for the account of Mrs. A. Dunne when she got up in time to best Mecat at the end of the five and one-half furlongs first race that engaged a field of twelve. Bob Dozer, in the mutuel field, was third. The speedy Mecat raced into a long lead in the run down the back stretch, but Pink Slipper, under Willie Kern, worked her way forwardly slowly and, nearing the end, overhauled Mecat and was drawing away at the finish. Shasta Lad registered his second straight victory and his third of the meeting when he justified the confidence of his large following by proving an easy winner of the second race, which engaged a field of six, at three-quarters. Monnie raced to the place, with Rare Charm best of the others. D. Meade rated .the winner off the pace of Take Off to the final furlong, then drove him to the lead, winning by a length and a half from Monnie. Rare Charm, after being shuffled back at the stretch turn, gradually wore down the tiring Take Off. Oliver Reeds Quickaway showed improvement under the handling of jockey Jimmy McCoy and made every post a winning one in the three-quarters fourth race, which engaged a field of eight. Prince Fox raced to the place, with the favorite, Racketeer, third. After drawing clear of Uncle Matt in the opening half-mile, the winner continued in the van, to prove easily best of Prince Fox, which made up considerable ground in the run through the stretch. Although charging on the leaders in the final quarter, Racketeer was unable to get up. J. C. Ellis Leros earned his first victory of the year when he scored in hollow fashion over Scream, Fireflash and two others in the Strouse and Brothers Claiming Purse that served as the fifth event. Benefited by the walk-up start, the winner raced close to the pace of Fireflash and Judge Primrose to the stretch when he took command to lead Scream by two lengths at the finish. The latter was slow to get in motion and was forced to make up much ground in the run down the back stretch. Fireflash was the favorite in this.
